This research study, entitled "Cause and Mitigation Strategies on the Cost Overruns of the Municipal Engineering Office Projects”, aims to identify key objectives: (a) construction projects that contribute to cost overruns at the Municipal Engineering Office (MEO), (b) factors causing these overruns, and (c) mitigation strategies through construction management to prevent cost overruns and delays. Utilizing a quantitative research design, the researchers employed questionnaires and document analysis to gather necessary information. Respondents included personnel from the Municipal Engineering Office of Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya. Data analysis involved statistical methods such as measures of central tendency (mean) and variability (standard deviation). Notably, the project documents showed an absence of cost overruns, indicating effective project management. The study identified several factors contributing to cost overruns, including initial project budgeting issues, use of low-quality materials, and delayed designs and documents. To address these challenges, the study proposed mitigation strategies like thorough project planning, transparent financial statements, and frequent site visits, which were found to be effective in managing and preventing cost overruns in construction projects. These findings highlight the importance of meticulous planning and transparent communication in construction management to ensure projects stay within budget and are completed on time, thereby contributing to the overall efficiency and success of municipal construction projects.
