500			_aThis study was conducted to assess the degree of upland farmers participation in upland development projects in selected barangays of Santa Fe, Solano, and Bagabag. Nueva Vizcaya and to ascertain the variables associated with their participation. The respondents of the study were the 172 upland farmers randomly drawn in the depressed barangays of the three municipalities. The proportional allocation was used to determine the number of farmer respondents per municipality. The descriptive statistics which include frequency and percentage distributions, deviation were used range. mean, the describe and standard different to characteristics of the respondents, degree of participation in the various phases of upland development projects, and the factors that motivated them join upland development projects. The t-test was used to compare the difference on the degree of participation of the active and non-active upland farmers in upland development projects and the factors that motivated them. The regression and correlation analyses were used to determine the relationship between the respondents degree of participation and their personal, economic, information-related and motivating variables. The age of the respondents ranged from 19-75 years with a of 42.73 years. The great majority of the respondents were males and more than 80% had either elementary or secondary education. On the average, they have resided in their respective localities for 28.92 years. The average number of children of the respondents was three. They had been in the farming business of 17 years and very few have other sources on an average of income aside from farming/gardening. More than 80% have landholdings of 2 ha or less and most owned the land they cultivated. Hired and family labor were the major sources of labor and only a few practiced bayanihan. More than one-half earned P20,000.00 or less annually and took out loans from banks, relatives, agricultural supply dealers, and money lenders. Radio was the most common source of information by the respondents as others also read pamphlets and leaflets. Their contact with change agents was very often In all the phases of upland project development, the active upland farmers had consistently showed significantly higher degree of participation in the various activities than their non-active upland counterparts. The active upland farmers also consistently exhibited significantly higher level of motivation in joining agricultural development projects as compared to the non-active upland farmer-respondents. The degree of participation of the farmers, non-active upland farmers and their combined ranks were significantly socio-economic. with related information-related, variables. This result was motivating true to all the five phases project development as well as on the overall degree of as participation of the respondents.
