500 _a The contemporary construction industry is increasingly adopting environmentally sustainable practices, with a focus on reducing carbon footprints and enhancing energy efficiency. Conventional hollow blocks, while widely used, present challenges related to weight and handling, which impact energy efficiency and construction flexibility. This thesis explored the integration of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) into hollow blocks to address these issues. EPS, known for its lightweight properties, offers potential benefits such as reduced structural weight and improved ease of handling, while also supporting environmental sustainability through the repurposing of recyclable materials. The study involved creating four mixtures of EPS-infused hollow blocks, with varying EPS content: 0% (Mixture A), 25% (Mixture B), 50% (Mixture C), and 75% (Mixture D). These mixtures were tested for compressive strength and bulk density. Results showed that Mixture B had the highest compressive strength at 3.2 MPa, a 0.79% increase compared to the control group, and a bulk density at 2251.24 kg/m³, with a 2.91% decrease from the control group. Mixture D, on the other hand, had the lowest compressive strength at 1.6 MPa, a 51.27% decrease compared to the control group, and the lightest bulk density at 1950.41 kg/m³, a 15.88% decrease from the control group. The research concludes that integrating EPS into hollow blocks can effectively balance weight and strength, with Mixture B emerging as the optimal mix for achieving the best combination of these properties. This innovation not only enhances construction efficiency and flexibility but also contributes to sustainable building practices by reducing waste and promoting the use of recycled materials.
