500 _aThis study focused on the assessment of the bio-physical characteristics of the NVSU Land Reservation in Belance, Dupas del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. The research examined species richness, diversity indices, and environmental characteristics within various vegetation as Grassland with Sparse Trees (GST), Mahogany Dominated Forest (MDF), and Secondary Forest (SF). The study highlighted notable variations in species richness, dominance, Shannon diversity index (H). Simpson's index (1-D), and evenness across these plots. Secondary Forest had the highest species richness of 9. Shannon index of 2.20 and Simpson's index of 0.89 diversity overall. This is followed by Grassland with Sparse Tree with species richness of 7. Shannon index of 1.95 and Simpson index of 0.86. Mahogany Dominated Forest came in the last with species richness of 5. Shannon index of 1.61 and Simpson index of 0.80. In terms of species Importance Value (IV) across all vegetation types, the top 5 species with the highest important value were mahogany with importance value of 111.08, followed by malatungaw with importance value of 64.86, hamindang with importance value of 31.08, paguringon with importance value of 29.34 and last is antipolo with importance value of 25.29. GIS analysis revealed that terrain characteristics in the study range from gentle to steep gradients and elevation spans from 770 meters to 950 meters above sea level. Soil chemical properties such as macro nutrient (N, P, K) in secondary forest were constantly highest compared to other vegetation types. However, the soil in Mahogany Dominated Forest provides the highest OM content. Water quality assessment indicated that the parameters such as pH, turbidity, temperature and dissolve oxygen level, fall within acceptable limit as per DENR DAO No.34, series of 1990. Presence of faunal diversity were also observed abundant in the stream.
