500			_aThe experiment was conducted to evaluate the antifertility effect of Andrographis paniculata aqueous leaf extract in rabbits The parameters involved in the experiment were the pregnancy test results at day 14 post costum, and days 5 and 10 after discontinuation of treatment Eighteen female rabbits were used in the study, which composed of three treatments with two replicates each and three animals per replicate It was randomly distributed following the Complete Randomized Design (CRD) The treatments used in the experiment were as follows Treatment 1- positive control (Ethinyl estradiol plus Cyproterone acetate), Treatment 2- negative control (distilled water), and Treatment 3-Andrographis paniculata aqueous leaf extract. The eighteen female rabbits were treated for 15 days and were allowed to be mated to male rabbits with proven fertility After fourteen days post coitum, the rabbits were examined if they conceived or not. Female rabbits under treatment 3 were again mated to the same male rabbits 5 and 10 days after discontinuation of the treatment. They were assessed again after 14 days post coitum. Results showed that Andrographis paniculata aqueous leaf extract exhibited antifertility effect comparable with Ethinyl estradiol plus Cyproterone acetate. All the female rabbits in both treatment 1 (Ethinyl estradiol plus Cyproterone acetate) and 3 (1000 mg/kg Andrographis paniculata aqueous leaf extract) did not conceived. For the duration of antifertility effect of Andrographis paniculata aqueous leaf extract in female rabbits, it was totally reversed 10 days after the discontinuation of the treatment wherein all the three rabbits conceived after pairing off. On the other hand, I out of 3 female rabbits only got pregnant when mated 5 days after the discontinuation of the treatment. It was concluded that Andrographis paniculata aqueous leaf extract can be used as alternative and cheaper way for animal population control.
