| 500 | _aThe experiment was conducted to evaluate the hemostatic activity of Siam weed (Chromolaena odorata) in rats. Parameters involved in the study were effect in length of bleeding and coagulation time. Fifteen rats were used in the study. The study was laid out following the complete randomized design (CRD) with five treatments, each treatment with three replicates with the following treatments: Treatment 1-Positive control Vitamin K (phytomenadione), Treatment 2-negative control (distilled water), Treatment 350% odorata ethanol dried leaf extract, Treatment 4-70% C odorata ethanol dried leaf extract, Treatment 5-95% C. odorata ethanol dried leaf extract. Based on the result of the study, C. odorata ethanolic leaf extract exhibited hemostatic activity comparable with vitamin K. Treatment 5 (95% ethanol dried leaf extract) obtained the shortest bleeding time among other treatments and is comparable to T1 (vitamin K) positive control. For practical means and under emergency situations. C odorata leaf extract could be an alternative source as procoagulant. On the other hand, blood coagulation evaluation for C. odorata ethanolic extract displays no significant results. However, all results are within normal reference interval. | ||
