500 _aA large-scale mining operation in Barangay Anonang, Cordon, Isabela has left an abandoned open-pit which eventually formed an approximately two-hectare greenish colored lagoon. The water of the lagoon was asserted by this study to have been polluted with Manganese. The Manganese-polluted water from the lagoon was used to determine the phytoremediation potentials of water hyacinth, water lettuce, combination of duckweeds and azolla, and pure azolla acclimatized in tap water, Snap solution, and carrageenan. The study revealed that the water hyacinth and water lettuce acclimatized with tap water and carrageenan, and the combination of duckweeds and azolla acclimatized in Snap solution can grow under the Manganese polluted water. They can remove a maximum of 99.99% of manganese pollutants in three days, and were proved to be bioaccumulate of manganese pollutant-based form the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). Thus, the use of water hyacinth and water lettuce acclimatized with tap water and carrageenan, and the combination of duckweeds and azolla acclimatized in Snap solution is recommended for the phytoremediation of Manganese polluted water.
