500 _a In response to the urgent need for sustainable construction practices, this research delves into the feasibility of incorporating coconut shells as an additive to coarse aggregates in concrete mixtures, with a particular focus on their impact on compressive strength. Traditional construction materials pose significant environmental challenges, with the abundance of coconut waste exacerbating these concerns. Addressing this issue requires innovative solutions that not only mitigate environmental impact but also offer cost-effective alternatives. Leveraging an extensive review of existing literature, this study examines the mechanical properties, structural performance, and environmental sustainability implications of utilizing coconut shells in construction applications. The literature review underscores the potential of coconut shells as promising alternatives to traditional aggregates, emphasizing their lightweight and porous characteristics, which contribute to concrete weight reduction. Furthermore, experiments have demonstrated that coconut shells, when combined with other reinforcing materials, can enhance the mechanical robustness of concrete structures. However, concerns persist regarding the long-term durability and structural integrity of coconut-based concrete, necessitating further investigation into its performance across diverse construction applications and environmental conditions. The experimental phase of this research adopts a rigorous approach to evaluate the compressive strength of concrete samples containing varying proportions of coconut shells. Findings reveal a notable reduction in compressive strength compared to conventional concrete mixtures, particularly with increasing coconut shell content. Despite this observed reduction, the study highlights potential cost savings and environmental benefits associated with the use of coconut shells as additives. Recommendations for future research include exploring alternative curing methods, assessing long-term durability, and collaborating with industry experts to ensure practical application and adherence to industry standards. In summary, this research contributes to the advancement of sustainable construction practices by offering insights into the viability of coconut shells as a viable alternative in the quest for eco-friendly building materials. By addressing key concerns and highlighting potential benefits, this study paves the way for further innovation in the construction industry, balancing environmental considerations with structural integrity and cost-effectiveness.
