| 500 | _a This study determined the relationship between the level of disaster readiness among the education personnel in Public Secondary schools and the different factor variables such as demographic profile and disaster awareness. This study was conducted among the 103 education personnel in the public secondary schools of Cordon, Isabela. The data was acquired through a survey questionnaire consisting of three parts: personal and school profile, disaster awareness and disaster preparedness. The researcher analyzed the data using descriptive-correlational method. Descriptive methods were used to present the personal and school profile of education personnel, their disaster awareness and disaster preparedness. On the other hand, the correlation methods explored the differences among factor variables. Results showed that almost a third of the education personnel are in their late twenties towards their early thirties, have been in the teaching profession for at most 10 years. Most of the respondents are female and currently taking up their Master's Degree and are employed in an urban school setting. They exhibit an excellent awareness on each calamity being studied. This is an indication that the respondents are very much aware of how drought, flood and typhoon can turn into disasters and how they should address such disasters. Moreover, the schools are generally very much prepared in handling disasters that may come in their school setting Significant differences were observed under the typhoon and overall level of disaster awareness when the teachers had been grouped according to their number of years spent in the current school and where their schools are located. Also, the levels of preparedness of schools in terms of preparation measures and safe school facilities are statistically significantly different from the disaster awareness of the teaching personnel in terms of flood, drought as well as the overall awareness level. Lastly, the levels of preparedness of schools had an assumed effect on the level of disaster awareness of the education personnel in terms of flood and drought. The level of disaster awareness of floods of the education personnel is significantly related to their perceived level of disaster preparedness (r = 0.349) p < 0.001). Moreover, the disaster awareness of the education personnel in terms of drought had significant relationships with the perceived level of disaster preparedness of their respective public schools in all its components including the overall level of disaster preparedness of the schools ( t = 0.402, p < 0.001 ) In terms of typhoon, the perceived level of disaster awareness of education personnel in terms of typhoon, exhibited significant positive relationships with disaster preparedness of public schools in terms of safe school facilities ( t = 0.199 P = 0.044) and hazard education and training ( r = 0.275 , p = 0.005 ) as well as the overall perceived level of disaster preparedness ( r = 0.214 p = 0.03 ). | ||
