The research determined the antimicrobial efficacy of Akapulko and Makabuhay leaf extracts against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli It specifically identified the most effective concentration of Akapulko and Makabuhay Leaf extracts and compared their efficacy with a commercially available antibiotic (Chloramphenicol).

The study was laid out following the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) while the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test was used to compare significant differences among treatment means, with five treatments replicated three times with the following treatments: Treatment 1 (Chloramphenicol), Treatment 2 (25% Leaf extract), Treatment 3 (50% Leaf extract), Treatment 4 (75% leaf extract) and Treatment 5 (100% leaf extract).

Based on the result of the study, Akapulko and Makabuhay leaf extracts proved to have various pharmacological properties such as antimicrobial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli Although, the result showed that all concentrations (25%, 50%, 75% and 100%) of leaf extracts exhibited antibacterial activity it was not as effective as the control Treatment Chloramphenicol. However, this herbal plant could provide an alternative to the conventional scientific medicine and a substitute to expensive commercially available drugs.
