Out of 43 cattle fecal samples tested, 39 (90.7%) harbour E. coli to determine the prevalence of antimicrobial resistant commensal Escherichia colt slaughtered in Solano. Nueva Vizcaya The E. coli isolates were tested against eight different antimicrobials belonging to seven antimicrobial classes using disk diffusion assay Thirty three (84.6%) of the 39 E.coli isolates exhibited resistance to at least one antimicrobial agent Resistance to amoxicillin was highest at 74 3% followed by resistance to cefotaxime at 43.6%, ceftriaxone and tetracycline both at 38 5% Resistance to chloramphenicol was low at 5.1% while resistance was not found in all isolates against ciprofloxacin and gentamicin Multidrug resistant (MDR) was observed in 13 isolates (39.39%). The most common resistance pattern is to a single antimicrobial which is amoxicillin at 24.24%.
Isolates from Nueva Vizcaya have the highest percentage of resistance with 87.9% and have the highest percentage of multidrug resistant isolates with 11 (84.6%) isolates from a total of 13 multidrug resistant isolates Among the municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya, Solano has the highest percentage of resistant isolates with 42.42% and has the highest percentage of multidrug resistant isolates with 5 (38.5%) isolates from a total of 13 MDR isolates. The study also provided significant evidence of MDR strains of E. coli in the said species.
