Although schools can and do make a significant difference, researchers have identified numerous factors which can affect students' success. The researcher categorized the variables that can affect student achievement like (1) school characteristics, (2) the teacher characteristics and (3) the student characteristics. This study was conducted to establish the determinants of the Science and Technology achievements of the senior students of Solano High School. Specifically, it sought to find out the school characteristic, teachers' characteristics and students characteristics; what Science and Technology achievements of senior students was in terms of their grades in Science and Technology 1 (Integrated Science), Science and Technology II (Biology), Science and Technology III (Chemistry) and Science and Technology IV (Physics), if there was a significant difference among the Science and Technology achievements of the senior students in the various Science subjects, if there was a significant relationship between the Science and Technology achievements of the senior students and teachers' characteristics; if there was a significant relationship between the Science and Technology achievements of the senior students and students' characteristics, and identify the determinants of the Science and Technology achievements of senior students of Solano High School. There were 10 Science teachers and 130 senior students chosen as the respondents of this study. Two instruments were used in the study questionnaires for teachers and students and the Form 137 of the senior students to acquire their Science and Technology achievement. The results of pre-testing were statically analyzed wherein the Cronbach Alpha Reliability Coefficient had a value of 0.8874 which was highly significant. This means that the pre-tested instrument was reliable. The data were collected on January 2007, after the first three periodical tests was finished foe the senior students. The data on Science and Technology achievement grades were obtained from the Registrar Office of Solano High School using Secondary data Analysis was done using the descriptive statistics, Pearson's Product-moment Correlation Coefficient, Cramer's C Coefficient, F-test and Multiple Regression Analysis (stepwise procedure). There is a significant difference among the Science and Technology achievements of the senior students. Specifically, their performance in Science and Technology 1 (Integrated Science) and Science and Technology IV (Physics) were comparable and significantly higher than that of Science and Technology II (Biology) and Science and Technology III (Chemistry) which were comparably lower. Teaching load and teaching method were found to be related with the Science and Technology achievement of the senior students with teachers' characteristics. Age and textbooks were found to be related with the Science and Technology achievement of the senior students. There are 4 determinants for the Science and Technology achievements of senior students of Solano High School were found. These are teaching load and teaching method for the teachers' characteristics and age and textbooks for students' characteristics. Specifically, for Science and Technology I, the determinant are Textbook and Teaching load, Science and Technology II are textbook, students' age and teaching method, Science and Technology III are textbook, students' age and teaching method and Science and Technology IV is the textbook. | Thesis (Master of Education in Science Education - General Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Determinants of the science and technology achievements of the senior students of Solano high school/

Electronic nose based on piezoelectric quartz crystal sensor for mango fruit maturity assessement/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Dulay, Samuel B..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2007 .
xi, 87 leaves : , An electronic nose based on piezoelectric quartz crystal was developed for monitoring the maturation of carabao mango. This device detects the volatile organic compounds present in the headspace of the mango fruit. Nitrogen gas was used to transport at controlled flow rate the vapor compounds to a chamber that contains the piezoelectric quartz crystals. The crystals were coated with different organic polymers that interact by self assembled instrumentation and recorded by the computer in terms of frequency change. Chemical analysis was also done on the sample for its total sugar content using Clegg-anthrone method. The pH of the sample was also recorded. The quartz sensors gave stable response to the mango fruit sample (response time 17 to 43 minutes), exhibited good repeatability (R.S.D = 3.3% to 5.1%; n=3) and good reproducibility (R.S.D. 1.9% to 6.1%; n = 5). Different signals were observed at different stages of the maturation of carabao mango fruit. As the fruit matures, the total sugar available increase as the pH also increases. Principal component analysis (PCA) was done to discriminate the response of the electronic nose to different stages of maturation of mango. The assembled electronic nose could support, if not replace the sensory evaluation and chemical analysis wherein both of which requires trained personnel. Danny Valdez .
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2007 .
xvi, 158 leaves : , This study explored the relationship between critical thinking performance and perceptual learning style preferences. The study was conducted at the Nueva Vizcaya State University, Bayombong Campus during the second semester of school year 2006-2007. A total sample of 271 freshmen college students served as the respondents of the study. The researcher made used of the descriptive-correlation research method through the adapted and structured questionnaires to gather pertinent data required in the study. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The 0.05 probability level (level of significance) was the critical point of reference. The result of the study indicated that college freshmen who served as respondents of the study with high performance in making inferences, making deductions, evaluating arguments, and giving interpretations are those who have garnered high scores in the college entrance test given by the University. Likewise, female college freshmen who graduated from private schools have higher performance in recognizing assumptions than other respondents of the study, whereas, female college freshmen in the study site with higher test scores also have higher level of critical thinking performance On antecedents and perceptual learning style preferences, Ilocano college freshmen learn best through tactile. College freshmen with higher test scores are the combination of tactile and visual, while the major perceptual learning style preference of the respondents whose parents have high educational attainment is kinesthetic On critical thinking performance and perceptual learning style preferences, college freshmen who are good in making inferences are multi-perceptual learners, college freshmen who prefer visual as their major perceptual learning style preference are good in giving interpretations, and the major perceptual learning style preference of the college freshmen who are good in making inferences is visual With the above result of the study, the following recommendations are forwarded: To improve the critical thinking performance of college freshmen in terms of making inferences, enhancement activities on making inferences should be focusing on the respondents who have garnered lower scores in the college entrance test given by the University. To improve the critical thinking performance of college freshmen in terms of recognizing assumptions, enhancement activities in terms of recognizing assumptions should focus more on male college freshmen who graduated from private schools. Likewise, to improve the lesson absorption of Ilocano college freshmen, teaching technique that is more on hands-on experiences should be more extensively used. To improve the learning performance of college freshmen who garnered higher entrance test scores, the combination of tactile and visual perceptual learning styles should be used in the introduction of their lessons, and to improve the learning performance of college freshmen whose parents have higher educational attainment, kinesthetic or physical involvement in classroom activities should be more extensively used. Moreover, the perceptual learning style that is most appropriate for college freshmen who are good in making inferences should be multi-perceptual learning styles or the combination of tactile, visual, and kinesthetic. College freshmen who are good in giving interpretations should be exposed more on the visual perceptual learning style, and the visual perceptual learning style should be used extensively in improving the overall critical thinking performance of the college freshmen of the Nueva Vizcaya State University. | Thesis (Master of Education - Educational Administration) 28 cm..

Place hold on The critical thinking performance and perceptual learning style preferences of college freshmen: their relations to student antecedents/

Correlates of job performance of community-based forest management (cbf) program implementers in Ifugao/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Pascua, Rogelio P..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2007 .
xvi, 152 leaves : , The study sought to determine the correlates of job performance of Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) Program implementers in Ifugao. To achieve the above objectives, the study used the descriptive-correlation research method through a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics The 0.05 probability level (level of significance) was the critical point of reference for the analyses of the study results. The study was conducted in the upland communities of Bayombong, Bagabag and Quezon, which were issued the Community-Based Forest Management Agreement (CBFMA). The 180 respondents of this study were members and officers of the three (3) People's Organization (PO) awarded with CBFM Program namely, the Federation of Vista Hills, Kalongkong and Kakilingan Upland Farmers Inc. of the CBFM-International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) Project, the Singian Agro-Forest Association of the Tuao South CBFM Project and the Bakir Pagbiagan ti Pagilian of the Runruno, CBFM Project. These are the direct beneficiaries of the CBFM Program. The study was conducted from the months of December 2006 to January 2007 Findings of the study revealed that the extent of the performance of the CBFM program in the study sites in the attainment of its objectives was found to be moderate. Likewise, beneficiaries who were Ilocanos and belonging to the mainstream religious denominations such as the Roman Catholic Church and United Methodist Church have higher level of attainment of the overall objectives of the CBFM program as compared to other beneficiaries of the program. Moreover, the extent of Implementation of the CBFM Program, in terms of services rendered mechanics of implementation, performance of personnel assigned to the project, significantly correlated with the performance of CBFM Program in terms of socio-economic upliftment, ecological sustainability, social empowerment, and partnership among program stakeholders, and the overall performance of the CBFM program in the attainment of its objectives. The study therefore recommend that Ilocanos and those belonging to the mainstream Christian religious denominations should spearhead the attainment of the objectives of the CBFM program in the study sites by serving as leaders that will help facilitate the implementation of the various components of the program; and to achieve a high extent of performance of the CBFM program in its totality and in every aspect such as in socio-economic upliftment, ecological sustainability, social empowerment, and partnership among program stakeholders, the inherent components of the CBFM program should first be implemented in terms of services, effective mechanics of implementation, high level of performance of personnel assigned to the project. | Thesis (Master of Science-Rural Development) 28 cm..

Place hold on Correlates of the performance of community-based forest managment (cbfm) program in Nueva Vizcaya/

The effect of educational games on students' achivement in home technology and livelihood education at Tua high school/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Valdez, Merlyn R..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2007 .
xiv, 119 leaves : , This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of educational games in teaching Home Technology and Livelihood Education at Tuao High School; determine the performance level in selected lessons in Home Technology and the achievement level in pretest and posttest mean scores of respondents. All the respondents from the experimental and control group speak the Kalanguya dialect. 5. Majority of the parents, in both the experimental and control groups, are farmers. On Performance Level 1. In the computational skill subtest, majority of the respondents in the experimental group obtained high scores. On the other hand, most of the pupils in the control group got moderate scores. Overall, the greater percentage of the respondents got moderate scores. 2 In the problem-solving skill subtest, the majority of the respondents in both the experimental and control groups obtained moderate scores. There are no pupils from the experimental group with low scores On the other hand, there are no respondents from the control group with high scores3. In the criterion test as a whole, the greater percentage of respondents in both the experimental and control groups got moderate scores. There were no respondents who got low scores. On Test of Significant Difference 1. The experimental group who received the FLC-BP treatment and the control group who was taught with the traditional method of instruction performed equally in the pretest for the computational skill and problem-solving skill subtests. In the pretest for the criterion test, however, the experimental group performed better than the control group. 2. The control performed better in the posttest than in the pretest. This implies that the traditional method of instruction improved the mathematics performance of the control group in the subtests and in the criterion test as a whole. 3. The experimental group performed better in the posttest than in the pretest. This suggests that the treatment, FLC-BP method of teaching, significantly improved the mathematics performance of the experimental group in the subtests and in the criterion test as a whole. 4. The experimental group performed better than the control group in the posttest. This implies that the FLC-BP is better than the traditional method of teaching mathematics to Grade 1 pupils.5. The experimental group obtained significantly higher gain scores than the control group. While both the traditional method and the FLC-BP mode of teaching resulted in improved performance in each group, the FLC-BP intervention effected better improvement for the experimental group. Recommendations Based on the findings and conclusions of the study, the following recommendations are forwarded. 1. Since the FLC-BP teaching methodology enhanced the mathematics performance of the grade I pupils involved in this study, the researcher recommends its implementation in the teaching of elementary mathematics. 2. This study validates the findings of other researchers in the other disciplines. It is therefore recommended that replications of this research be conducted in determining the effectiveness of the FLC-BP method in improving other skills in other learning areas. These recommendations based on the findings of the study are augmented by the observations of the teaching gleaned from her observation notes. | Thesis (Master of Education - Language, Reading and Numeracy) 28 cm..

Place hold on Mathematics achievement of grade 1 pupils using first language component-bridging program (flc-bp)/

Hemispheric preferences and perceptual strengths of the Nueva Vizcaya State University faculty and students/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Blanco, Florina S..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2007 .
xv, 131 leaves : , The purpose of this study was to find the Hemispheric Preferences and Perceptual Strengths of the Nueva Vizcaya State University Faculty and the Third Year College of Teacher Education Students, Bayombong Campus during the second semester of school year 2006-2007. A total of 150 third year College of Teacher Education Students and 33 Faculty members of the University served as the respondents of the study. The researcher made use of TLS-Dunn and Dunn Questionnaire to gather pertinent data required in the study The data were analyzed using the descriptive-normative survey method of research to describe the teachers and students in terms of certain variables. The correlation technique was used to determine the relationship between the perceptual strengths and hemispheric preferences of both students and faculty respondents and some profile variables Moreover, descriptive-comparative analysis was used to determine significant differences in the perceptual strengths and hemispheric preferences of teachers and students when grouped according to certain variables. Furthermore, the data were computer analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency, percent, means and standard deviations, t-test, Analysis of Variance and Spearman/Pearson Correlation statistics It made use of the descriptive-normative correlation and comparative methodology of research, too. In the light of the hemispheric preferences of the student respondents, results of the study indicated that there is a higher percentage of females who are analytic than males but there is a higher percentage of males who are global than females. The student respondents are analytic in all age groups. According to course, the BEED and the BSED students are both analytic while the BSAED students represent the three groups of hemispheric preferences and the BSIE students represent both analytic and global. Moreover, on the student respondents' hemispheric preferences, majority of the male and the female student respondents are moderately auditory, moderately visual-picture and moderately visual text. Males are moderately in contrast to females who are strongly tactile kinesthetic. All age brackets were moderately visual picture and visual text and strongly tactile kinesthetic. The BEED, BSAED, BSED students fall under the moderate auditory category. The BSED fell under the strongly visual-picture category. Also, the student respondents were categorized as moderate internal kinesthetic and under the different major fields show that they were found to be all moderate auditory. moderate in visual-picture and strongly internal-kinesthetic As graduates of private and public schools, they are moderate auditory, moderate visual-picture, moderate visual-text, strongly tactile kinesthetic and strongly internal kinesthetic learners as strength in learning. The three profile variables gender, age and high school graduated from, only sex was found significantly correlated to perceptual strengths specifically visual-text (-0,227, p<0.05). There is a significant difference between course and visual-picture component of perceptual strengths (F-2.774, p<0.005). For the hemispheric preference of faculty, the female faculty respondents were found analytic than male faculty respondents, all age groups except 36-40 age group were analytic. Under major field, rank and years in service, the faculty respondents were found to be analytic teachers/learners Whereas, under their perceptual strengths, male faculty respondents are strongly auditory, strongly visual picture, moderately visual text, strongly tactile and strongly internal kinesthetic while female faculty respondents are moderately auditory, either moderate or strongly visual picture, strongly visual text, strongly tactile and internal kinesthetic. All age groups are moderate under auditory, visual text and tactile kinesthetic and most age groups are strongly visual picture and internal kinesthetic teachers/learners. According to the major field of specialization, both groups are moderate auditory, both are strongly visual picture and both are strongly tactile and internal kinesthetic. They differ under visual text where language group are strongly visual text while the other group are moderately visual text. According to rank, the instructors and assistant professor are moderately auditory, both fell under strongly visual picture, strongly tactile and internal kinesthetic. According to the faculty respondents years of service, the three groups are moderately auditory and strongly under all variables. Among the faculty respondents, their perceptual strengths and hemispheric preferences are not affected with gender, age, major field of specialization and number of years in service Instead, the perceptual strengths and hemispheric preferences are affected by his/her rank and global preference. There is a significant difference between the student respondents and faculty respondents in perceptual strengths under the components of auditory, visual-picture, visual-text, and tactile-kinesthetic and analytic preferences. In the light of the findings of this study, the following are recommended. To facilitate successful learning opportunities for all learners, the teacher/faculty must know his learners and the teaching styles of the faculty should cater to the hemispheric preference and perceptual styles of the students. It is important to diagnose the perceptual strengths and hemispheric preferences of students in all levels and faculty members in order to match all areas of learning, thus, producing high achievement scores "If students cannot learn the way we teach them, then we must teach them the way they learn." (Dunn and Dunn, 1999). The use of visual-text as approach to teaching or learning across courses should also be monitored and the production of visual-text materials is important to address the need of students to see, and read something as they learn new and difficult information Since visual-picture is a perceptual strength of the Third Year College of Teacher Education Students, the use of graphic materials, diagrams and pictures in the teaching-learning process is needed. Since academic rank and global preference was found to be significantly related, faculty members should adapt the use of global approaches in their teaching. Similar studies should be conducted in all colleges of the university to validate the same purpose. | Thesis (Master of Education - Language, Reading and Numeracy) 28 cm..

Place hold on Hemispheric preferences and perceptual strengths of the Nueva Vizcaya State University faculty and students/

Efficacy of crude leaf extract of heartleaf hempvine (mikania cordata) as wound antiseptic, astringent and haemostatic in castrated pigs/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Libunao, Surewin R..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2007 .
xiii, 79 leaves : , An evaluation on the efficacy of the crude leaf extract of Heartleaf hempvine (Mikania cordata) as wound antiseptic, astringent, and haemostatic was conducted using 45 heads, 2 week-old Landrace piglets. Qualitative phytochemical analysis of the crude leaf extract using the procedures of Guevarra et. al. (1985) was conducted to identify its phytoconstituents. Antimicrobial sensitivity test of the leaf extract was conducted using the Kirby-Bauer Disk Method to evaluate its activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus spp two common bacteria which cause wound infection. The study was carried-out following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Mean comparison was done using the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The different treatments are as follows: T1 - positive control (2.5 ml iodine antiseptic was applied to wounds prior to castration and another 2.5 ml was applied after castration); T2 (2.5 ml Mikania cordata leaf extract applied to wounds prior to castration and another 2.5 ml applied after castration); T3 - negative control (No application prior to and after surgical incision during castration). The study was conducted at Quirino State College Hog Farm Project at Diffun, Quirino from September 11 to October 24, 2006. The conclusive findings of the study revealed no significant differences on the antiseptic and astringent effect of crude Mikania leaf extract to iodine. In terms of haemostatic effect, it was found that the crude leaf extract of Mikania is superior to that of iodine. The phytochemical analysis of the crude leaf extract of Mikania cordata revealed presence of tannins, saponins and anthraquinones. Results of the antimicrobial sensitivity test revealed that Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus spp. bacteria are resistant against crude Mikania leaf extract. Cost comparison revealed that it is cheaper to use the crude leaf extract of Mikania compared to lodine. Based on the results of the study, it can be deduced that Mikania Leaf extract can be used in place of iodine to treat castrated pig wounds. | Thesis (Master of Science - Animal Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Efficacy of crude leaf extract of heartleaf hempvine (mikania cordata) as wound antiseptic, astringent and haemostatic in castrated pigs/

Reading comprehension performance of grade I pupils using the first language component - bridging program (flc - bp)/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Lino, Lani B..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2007 .
xvi, 174 leaves : , The objective of the study was to determine if the use of the First Language Component Bridging Program as a teaching strategy would improve the reading comprehension of grade 1 pupils particularly on the skills noting details, getting the main idea, sequencing events, perceive relationship, inferring, predicting outcome and following directions. The investigation employed the pretest/posttest group design. The subjects of the study were 41 pupils from two intact classes at Ambaguio Central School, Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya who were enrolled in school year 2006-2007. The researcher handled the two classes assigned as control and experimental groups. The control group was taught the English-only as the medium of instruction; and the experimental group received the treatment using the method First Language Component-Bridging Program. The teacher-made criterion test was used to gather data on the reading comprehension performance of the pupils. The criterion test which was given on the first day as pretest and on the last day of the experiment as posttest was subjected to validation procedures. The questionnaire, validated by experts, was used to gather information about the pupils' profile such as age, gender, religious affiliation and occupation of parents. The data were statistically analyzed using t-test for dependent and independent samples. The null hypotheses were tested using the 0.05 level of significance. The following are the significant findings of the study. On Performance Level 1. In the pretest, the pupils in the control group obtained a satisfactory performance level in the overall criterion test and in the comprehension skills noting details, getting the main idea, perceiving relationship, inferring and following directions. The skills in sequencing events, and predicting outcome need improvement On the other hand, the experimental group also obtained a satisfactory performance level in the overall criterion test and in the comprehension skills noting details, getting the main idea, perceive relationship and following directions. Two comprehension skills, inferring and predicting outcome, need improvement. 2. In the posttest, the control group got a very satisfactory performance level in the overall criterion test and in the comprehension skills noting details, getting the main idea and following directions. The pupils in the same group obtained an outstanding performance in the skill perceiving relationship. None of the comprehension skills is categorized as needs improvement. On the other hand, the experimental group got a very satisfactory performance level in the criterion test and in most of the comprehension skills particularly noting details, getting the main idea, sequencing events, inferring and predictingoutcomes. The pupils in this group got outstanding performance level in perceiving relationship and following directions. On Test of Significant Difference 1. The control group performed better in the posttest than in the pretest in the overall criterion test and in the comprehension skills subtests in noting details, getting the main idea, perceiving relationship, inferring, predicting outcome and following directions. This implies that the traditional method of teaching reading, English-only as a medium of instruction, is effective. The control group, however, performed equally in the pretest and posttest in the subtest on sequencing events. 2. The experimental group performed better in the posttest than in the pretest in the overall criterion test and in all comprehension skills subtests The results suggests that the treatment, FLC-BP significantly improved the reading comprehension of the experimental group. 3. In the pretest, the experimental and control groups performed equally in the overall criterion test and in the subtests on noting details, getting the main idea, inferring, predicting outcome and following instructions. In sequencing events and perceiving relationship, the experimental group performed better than the control group. 4. The experimental group performed better than the control group in the posttest in the overall criterion test and in all comprehension skills subtests. Theresults point out that the FLC-BP method of teaching reading is better than English-only as a medium of instruction. 5. The experimental group obtained significantly higher mean gain scores than the control group in the skills noting details, sequencing, inferring, predicting outcome, following directions and in the whole criterion test. The two groups had parallel mean gain scores in getting the main idea and perceiving relationship. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations are forwarded: 1. This investigation validates the results of several researches on FLC-BP as an effective strategy for teaching comprehension skills. It is then recommended that the methodology be adopted in teaching reading to grade school pupils. 2. The FLC-BP books are highly recommended for use of pupils to make reading easy and fun. 3. It is highly recommended that a replication of this research be conducted to determine the effectiveness of the methodology, FLC-BP, in teaching other subjects/disciplines | Thesis (Master of Education - Language, Reading and Numeracy) 28 cm..

Place hold on Reading comprehension performance of grade I pupils using the first language component - bridging program (flc - bp)/

The new English Filipino Dictionary
<dc:identifier>ISBN:(cb.)</dc:identifier>

By Nalus, Francisca H., ed..
Hongkong: ISP enclose found. 2007 .
536 p.
