Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of 1.1 Age? 1.2 degree course? 1.3 gender? 1.4 type of school graduated from? 1.5 socio-economic status of parents? 2. What is the level of the respondents' 2.1 Attitude and 2.2 Mental ability towards Physics 1? 3. What is the level of the academic performance of the respondents in Physics 1? One hundred second year students coming from different courses who finished Physics 1 were the sample in this study, 80 or 80% of which were female and 20 or 20% were male. The instruments used to gather the students' data in this study were: Attitude Test, Achievement Test and Mental Ability Test. The data gathered through the different instruments were treated statistically as follows: 1. To describe the respondents in terms of the specified demographic variables, frequency and percentage distribution, means and standard deviations were computed. 2. To describe the Physics attitude and performance in Physics of the respondents, means and standard deviations were computed. 3. To test whether there is significant correlation between the respondents' academic performance in Physics and (a) demographic variables, (b) attitude in Physics, and mental ability, Chi-Square and Pearson were used. Test of significance was set at 0.05. The results and findings were as follows: 1. The mean age of the respondents is 18.78 years, a little bit higher than the normal age (18 years) 2. The course enrolled in by the respondent is not a determinant of his level of performance in Physics. 3. There are no significant correlations between gender and level of performance and between age and performance as shown in Table 14. This also follows a local study done by Aguinaldo, that academic performance in Physics was independent of students' age and socio-economic status but dependent on their 1.Q. and mathematical ability. 4. Other variables like "type of high school graduated from" and "socio-economic status of parents" are not factors of academic performance in Physics as were proven in Tables 15 and 16. Aguinaldo disclosed this also that academic performance in Physics was independent of students' age and socio-economic status but dependent on their I.Q. and mathematical ability. 5. There is a significant correlation between academic performance in Physics and attitude towards Physics. It implies that the more positive the attitude the student is in physics, the higher will be his performance in Physics. Or the more negative the attitude of the student in Physics, the lower will be his/her academic performance in Physics as shown in Table 17. This supports the study of Ayson (1991) concluded that study habits and study attitudes significantly affect academic performance in college. 6. Mental ability is significantly correlated to academic performance in Physics as shown in the computed r of 0.23 which yielded a probability of 0.02 that is less than 0.05. It means that the academic performance of a student in Physics is explainable by his/her mental ability. For a particular student, the higher his/her mental ability is, the better will be his/her performance in Physics. Thus, the mental ability is a positive determinant of academic performance in Physics as shown in Table 10. On the basis of the findings and conclusions, it is recommended that: 1. Students should develop a positive attitude in Physics always through the guidance of teachers and also parents. 2. Teachers / instructors/ professors who are teaching physics should make adjustments in their method of teaching by giving simplified problems and exercises to students with below average mental ability and challenging problems to students with higher mental ability. | Thesis (Master of Education in Science Education - General Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Attitude and mental ability as correlates in the academic perforamannce of students in physics 1 in Nueva Vizcaya State University/

Correlates of agricultural extension workers' job performance in Nueva Vizcaya/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Pugong, Jonathan P..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2005 .
xii, 123 leaves : , The study was conducted to identify the correlates of job performance of Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) in the province of Nueva Vizcaya, and explored the possible relationship between the profile variables, the personnel related factors, and the job related factors to the job performance of AEWS The study found out that the job performance of the AEWs was generally satisfactory. Specifically, they have satisfactory performance of their technical works. community development works and very satisfactory performance of their administrative and other related works The identified correlates for the job performance of the agricultural extension workers in terms of technical works include sex and level of individual autonomy given to the AEWs For the job performance of the agricultural extension workers in terms of community development works, the correlates include monthly salary, level of motivation, and level of individual autonomy. For the job performance of the agricultural extension workers in terms of administrative and other related works, the correlates include level of motivation, and level of individual autonomy. Hence, male extension workers should improve their performance on their technical works by adopting the strategies used by their female counterparts. Likewise, allowances of extension workers in their field activities should be upgraded to augment the meager salaries of the extension workers for them to perform well in their jobs. Likewise, administrators of AEWs in the province of Nueva Vizcaya should identify and use appropriate motivational technique effective for each of the AEWs in order for them to be more effective and efficient in their job regarding community development works, and in administrative and other related works To improve their level of job performance regarding their technical works, community development works, and administrative and other works, a certain level of autonomy in their work should be studied and accorded to AEWs. | Thesis (Master of Science-Rural Development) 28 cm..

Place hold on Correlates of agricultural extension workers' job performance in Nueva Vizcaya/

Factors associated with the extent of women's participation in fishery and aquaculture in Nueva Vizcaya/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Collado, Rosita R..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2005 .
xiv, 88 leaves : , The study was conducted to determine the factors associated with the extent of women's participation in fishery and aquaculture in Nueva Vizcaya. Specifically, the objectives of the study were: to describe the socio-demographic profile of women engaged in fishery and aquaculture; to determine the problems encountered by the respondents in relation to their participation in fishery and aquaculture; to determine the extent of participation of the respondents in fishery and aquaculture in terms of their role, activities engaged in and decision-making; to ascertain the relationship between the respondents' socio-demographic profile and extent of participation in fishery and aquaculture; and to find out the relationship between the problems encountered by the respondents and their extent of participation in fishery and aquaculture. The study was conducted in five municipalities of the province namely: Bambang, Solano, Quezon, Bagabag, and Diadi. The respondents of the study consisted of 120 women-31 in fishery and 89 in aquaculture. The descriptive statistics which include frequency counts, percentages and means were used to describe the socio-demographic profile of the respondents, problems encountered, roles, activities performed by the respondents, and decision-making in relation to fishery and aquaculture. Correlation techniques were employed to ascertain the relationships between the independent and dependent variables The study found out that majority of the respondents were Ilocanos and Roman Catholics. On average, the respondents are 42-43 years old with a household size of 5 members. All the respondents had at least some elementary education. The highest educational attainment of the fishery respondents is secondary education while some aquaculture respondents obtained graduate degrees Majority of the husbands are engaged in agrifarming and have an average income of about P48,000 for the fishery respondents, P140,000 for the aquaculture respondents or generally about P94,000 for the whole group of respondents. The most common problems encountered by the respondents in fishery were the job was difficult for them and mending nets interface with their household chores Among the aquaculture respondents, their main problem was lack/insufficient knowledge in fish culture Overall, the respondents had moderate participation in their roles, activities and decision-making related to fishery. On the other hand, the extent of participation of the respondents in aquaculture was generally moderate in their roles but low in their involvement in the activities and decision-making On the relationship between socio-demographic profile of the respondents and extent of participation in fishery, age, household size, and husband occupation were significantly correlated with some indicators of the respondents' roles. Only age was found to be significantly related to the women's overall participation in their role and activities with more participation among younger respondents. In decision-making. household size influenced the respondents' overall participation with greater involvement among respondents with less family members. Educational attainment, family income, household size, husband occupation., and ethnicity were found to be significantly related to the extent of participation of respondents in some indicators of their roles in aquaculture with more participation among respondents with higher educational attainment, family income, and household size, among women whose husbands are non-farmers, and among non-Ilocano women Family income positively correlated with the women's overall participation in their role Educational attainment and family income were found to be negatively related to the respondents' overall participation in aquaculture activities. In decision-making the overall participation of the respondents was influenced by their educational attainment, family income, ethnicity and religious affiliations. Age and household size did not affect the women's participation in any of the indicators in aquaculture activities and decision-making related to the industry. The problems encountered by the respondents in fishery were significantly related to their extent of participation on the role concerning food/snack preparation, involvement in fishery activities such as cleaning/washing/drying fishing gear, sorting caught fish, preserving/processing fish and their overall participation, and decisions on where and when to sell fish. In aquaculture, the respondents were not affected by the problems they encountered in performing the roles, activities, and decision-making. | Thesis (Master of Science in Rural Development) 28 cm..

Place hold on Factors associated with the extent of women's participation in fishery and aquaculture in Nueva Vizcaya/

Deveopmelnt of ginger-flavored ice cream (sorbetes) enriched with squash (cucurbita maxima L.) and sweet potato (ipomoea batatas)/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Saguiped, Lolita Bambico.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2005 .
xi, 56 leaves : , This study was conducted to develop a novel ice cream that is flavored with ginger and enriched with squash and/or sweet potato Specifically this study aims to determine the quality of different formulations of ice cream in terms of color/appearance, texture, body and overrun and find out their corresponding degree of acceptability. The main objective was to ascertain whether the use of the First language Component-Bridging Program teaching methodology would significantly improve the reading performance of the pupils on the following skills: identifying colors, naming familiar objects, identifying similar and different objects, arranging pictures in order, completing the missing part of a picture, identifying vowels and consonants, reading syllables and basic sight words. To address this objective, the researcher used a quasi-experiment employing the nonequivalent posttest-only control group design. The experimental was exposed to the FLC-BP teaching methodology, and the control group was not exposed at all. The researcher handled both the experimental and control group. There were 13 original lesson plans and enriching activities constructed by the researcher for classroom presentation. The pretest and posttest were administered to both Experimental and Control classes. The proposed achievement test underwent a rigid validation process and the test item was analyzed. The data were subjected to statistical analyses to test the null hypotheses. The following are the significant findings of the study: 1. The pupil respondents were composed of 23 in the experimental group who were treated with the First Language Component-Bridging Program (FLC-BP) teaching methodology and 20 in the control group were taught in English only which was prescribed by the Dep-Ed. 2. The mean scores of the control and experimental groups in the pretest were 24.45 and 26.17, respectively, both described as within the "average" performance level. The mean scores of the control and experimental groups in the posttest were 34.71 and 41.74 described as "above average" and "high," respectively. 3. The reading performance of the control and experimental groups in the pretest had no significant difference with a computed t-value of 0.94. 4. The reading performance of the control group in the pretest and posttest showed significant difference with a computed t-value of 13.76. 5. The reading performance of the experimental group in the pretest and posttest showed significant difference with a computed t-value of 16.09. 6. The reading performance of the control and experimental groups in the posttest showed significant difference with a computed t-value of 11.69. The FLC-BP was an effective method of improving reading performance of preschool pupils. All these findings point to the conclusion that the First Language Component-Bridging Program teaching methodology has shown evidence of its efficacy in the improvement of the Experimental pupils' achievement in their reading skills in identifying colors, naming familiar objects, identifying similar and different objects, arranging pictures in order, completing a picture, identifying vowels and consonants, reading syllable and basic sight words over the control group where the researcher used and all the English approaches were used as prescribed by the Dep-Ed. | Thesis (Master of Education - Language, Reading and Numeracy) 28 cm..

Place hold on Reading performance of preparatory pupils via first language component - bridging program (flc - bp) using language of wider communication/

Reading performance of first year high school students via the first language component - bridging program (flc - bp)/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Toje, Lolita Puguon .
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State University, 2005 .
xv, 164 leaves : , This research sought to find out if the use of the First Language Component Bridging Program would improve the reading comprehension of first year high school students of the Laboratory School, NVSU. The study employed the pretest/posttest group design. The subjects of the study were 87 students from two intact classes at the Nueva Vizcaya State University Laboratory School, Bayombong Campus enrolled in SY school year 2004-2005. The researcher handled the two classes assigned as control and experimental groups through "toss coin" scheme. The control group was taught the English-only as the medium of instruction; and the experimental group received the reading intervention using the method First Language Component Bridging Program. The teacher-made criterion test, formative tests and summative tests were used to gather data on the reading comprehension performance of the students. The formative tests served as evaluation tests after the day's lesson and the summative tests were used to measure the students' performance for the week. The criterion test was given on the firstday as pretest and on the last day of the experiment as posttest. These tests were subjected to validation procedures. The questionnaire, validated by an expert, was used to gather information about the students' personal data such as school category graduated from, educational attainment of parents, occupation of parents, reading materials at home, and home language. The data were statistically analyzed using t-test for correlated and uncorrelated samples. The null hypotheses were tested using the 0.05 level of significance. The following are the significant findings of the study. On Demographic Profile 1. Majority of the students graduated from public schools. 2. Most of the parents of the subjects in both the control and experimental groups are high school graduates. 3. The greater number of the students' male parents are farmers. Most of the female parents are housewives, 4. Majority of the students in both the control and experimental groups have books to read at home. 5. The greater percentage of the students speak Iloko. On Performance Level 1. The pretest reading performance level of the experimental and control groups, and for both groups combined is Average.2. In the formative tests, the experimental group had a High level of performance while the control group got an Above-Average level. Overall, the students belonged to the Above-Average level of performance. 3. In the summative tests, the experimental group got a High level of performance while the control group attained an Above-Average level. Overall, the respondents got an Above-Average level of performance. 4. In the posttest, the experimental group obtained an Above-Average level of performance while the control group attained an Average level. Both groups combined got an Average level of performance. On Test of Significant Difference 1. The experimental and control groups performed equally in the pretest. 2. The control group performed better in the posttest than in the pretest. This implies that English-only as a medium of instruction is effective. 3. The experimental group performed better in the posttest than in the pretest. This suggests that the intervention, FLC-BP significantly improved the reading comprehension of the experimental group. 4. The experimental group performed better than the control group in the posttest. While both methodologies were found to be effective, the use of the FLC-BP produced significantly higher reading comprehension performance for the experimental group.5. The experimental group obtained significantly higher gain scores than the control group. Based on the findings and conclusions of the study, the following recommendations are forwarded: 1. Since the FLC-BP reading methodology enhanced the reading performance of the first year students involved in this study, a replication of this investigation employing randomization of subjects is highly recommended. 2. Since this study validates the findings of the Jallorina study, it is recommended that replication of this research be conducted in other learning areas in any year level. 3. Further intensive research using the FLC-BP methodology of teaching be conducted along these lines: a. ability grouping as variable; b. educational attainment and occupation of parents as correlates; c. other languages like Kalanguya, Ibanag and Itawes. 4. Since conclusions of other studies point out to the effectiveness of the FLC-BP as a teaching methodology, the researcher highly recommends its implementation in the field. | Thesis (Master of Education - Language, Reading and Numeracy) 28 cm..

Place hold on Reading performance of first year high school students via the first language component - bridging program (flc - bp)/

Children's Literature and Computer based technique
<dc:identifier>ISBN:(pbk.)</dc:identifier>

By Unsworth, Len.
USA: Open Univ.
