Relationships of reading achievement test of grade III pupils and some selected variables/

xvi, 135 leaves : , This study was conducted to determine the validity and reliability of a teacher-made reading achievement test for Grade III pupils in selected elementary schools of Aritao District. The test-retest method of determining test reliability revealed a concurrent correlation of r=0.86, which was found to be significant at p<0.0001, well below the critical value of p=0.01. This suggests a very strong correlation between the test and retest results which can mean a high reliability of the test items. The Kuder-Richardson Formula 21, on the other hand, revealed a reliability coefficient of 0.58, which means that the achievement test when administered only once can "above-moderate reliability. have an The correlation between the achievement final grades in English III of the Grade IV pupils test scores and were found to found to be be weak with a value of r=0.25. This value was insignificant which means that the performance of the pupils in the schievement test is not associated with their graden in English III. Results further revealed that as the pupils gets older, their achievement test scores deteriorated an indicated bythe correlation coefficient r=-0.45 which was significant at the probability level of p=0.002. indicates an found to be The finding indirect association between age of pupils and schievement test scores. The female pupils whose mean achievement test score of 41.80 were found to outperform their male counterparts whose average rating was 35.60. These mean figures were found to be significantly different from each other at p=0.0002 level of significance. found to Grade III pupils enrolled in big schools were be significantly better LS compared to their counterparts in small schools in terms of Reading Comprehension Skills and Study Skills. The difference in the comprehension skills of the groups of pupils was significant at p=0.04 while the study skills was found to be significant at p=0.02. On the other hand, the performance of the pupils, whether they come from big or small schools did not significantly differ in the area of vocabulary skills and the overall Achievement Test Scores. Based on the foregoing findings and conclusions, following are recommended the 1. In using the English sohievement test, extra efforts should be exerted by the reading teacher in dealing with the boys in order to make then at par in performance with their fenale olanomaten.2. Reading teachers of small schools should render more attention particularly in the areas of Reading Comprehension and Study skille 3 Since the present study employed only the multiple choice type of test, future studies along this line should consider other types to encourage the pupils think analytically and critically. nore 4. xi, 129 leaves : , This study was conducted to find out whether the use of First Language Component Bridging Program (FLC-BP) of teaching Dolch Words (Part I) can improve the word recognition performance level of Grade I Pupils.. The subjects of the study were the two Grade I classes of Villaverde Central School, Villaverde District, Division of Nueva Vizcaya enrolled during the school year 1999-2000. The pupils were randomly grouped into two. The first was considered as the control where the traditional method of teaching using English wan used. The other group was considered the experimental group where the FLC-BF was used. The t-test was used to compare the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental and the control groups. Four hypotheses were tented and the results were as follows: 1 The experimental and control groups were both at pre-primer level in their pretest word recognition levels. The t-test on the comparison of the pretest word recognition levels of hath the experimental and the control grouped the initial port revealed that part of the experiment, both groups had comparable levels of word recognition. 2. The posttest word recognition level of the experimental group was classified as primer while that of the control group was categorized as pre-primer. The posttest word recognition levels of the experimental and the control group were found to be significantly different, the former outperforming the latter. While both posttest scores improved, the improvement in the experimental group's score groups greater implying an significant impact of the First Language Component-Bridging Program over the traditional approach of simply using English as instruction the medium of 3.The level of word recognition of the control group Increased from a 49.66 to 70.78 mean words recognized. Accuracy of the liveweight estimation formula . (h2l)/14421 on various classes of swine/

xi, 64 leaves : , The study was conducted to determine the accuracy of the liveweight estimation formula commonly used by swine growers and to propose a modification to make it suitable for use on various classes of swine. A total of 1197 heads of hogs comprising of 101 sows, 480 finishers, 486 growers, and 130 weanlings were used in the study. The heartgirth and body length measurements of the animals were taken then weighed individually. The measurements were used in estimating the liveweight of the animals using the original formula and the modified formula proposed in the study. The correlation and accuracy of the estimated weights as compared to the actual weights was determined through simple linear regression. Results showed that the original liveweight estimation formula underestimated the actual weights of the animals. The degree of underestimation was computed to be 0.3822% for sows, 3.3402% for finishers, 4.4656% for growers, and 16.0916% for weanlings. A constant c was introduced in the modified liveweight estimation formula using the percentage of underestimation. The constants c were computed as 1.00384 for sows, 1.03456 for finishers, 1.04774 for growers and 1.19178 for weanlings. The constants were multiplied to the original weight estimation formula to arrive at the modified weight estimation formula for various classes of swine. With the use of the modified formula, a slight weight overestimation could be obtained favoring the seller. For a simpler weight determination with greater accuracy, a weight estimation table (WET) and a weight estimation chart (WEC) were prepared for each class of swine. | Thesis (Master of Science - Animal Science) 28 cm..
