xvii, 226 leaves : , Sa mga probinsyang di katutubong Tagalog, ang paggamit ng Filipino bilang wikang panturo sa mga asignatura sa kultura at sibika, sa mga agham panlipunan, at mga araling pangkabuhayan ay kinakailangan ang isang kasangkapang panpagtuturo, lalong-lalo na para sa mga mag-aaral, tulad ng diksyunaryo o talasalitaan ng katutubong wika at ng Filipino. Ang proyektong ito na panghalip sa tesis, na bahagi ng higit na malaking proyekto ng ilang mga guro sa Batanes, ay sinisikap tugonan ang pangangailangang ito. Ito na rin ang naging layunin at halaga ng proyektong ito. At dahil na rin sa kalakihan ng gawain para sa buong proyekto, at limitasyon ng panahon upang tugonan agad ng pangangailangan sa talasalitaang ito, hinati ang proyekto sa tatlong bahagi. Ang akdang ito ay ang ikalawang bahagi na sumasaklaw sa mga letra G hanggang sa R. Bilang gabay at batayan ng proyekto, ginamit ang kauna-unahang talasalitaan ng wikang Ivatan na binuo sa mahabang panahon ng mga iba-ibang misyonaryong Kastilang Dominiko na nagtrabaho sa Batanes sa loob ng halos 200 taon. Ito ay inilathala sa unang pagkakataon sa imprenta ngAng pamamaraan ng paggamit ng talasalitaang nabanggit ay hindi tahasang pagsasalin dahil, unang-una, hindi dalubhasa ang tagapagsaliksik na ito sa wikang Kastila, bagaman sinikap din ang pagsasalin sa mga pagkakataong kinakailangan sa tulong ng mga dalubhasa. Ngunit dahil ang tagapagsaliksik ay katutubong taga-Batanes na may kasanayan sa Filipino, siya ang naglagay ng mga katapat na salitang Filipino sa bawat salitang Ivatan, at ang nasabing Vocabulario ang siyang naging panuntunan na lamang sa pagpasok ng mga entri sa kaayusang alpabetiko. At sa abut-kaya ng tagapagsaliksik, at sa tulong ng maraming katutubong Ivatan na may kabihasnan sa wikang Filipino, nabuo ang proyektong ito. Upland and lowland women's participitaion cooperatives/

xvi, 132 leaves : , The study was conducted to determine the degree of women's participation in cooperative programs in selected barangays of southern Nueva Vizcaya. Specifically, the objectives of the study were to identify the degree of women's participation in the cooperative; to determine if there is difference in the women's degree of participation in the cooperative based on geographical locations, namely lowland and upland; and to analyze the relationships between women's participation in the cooperative and the four sets of factors inherent in the respondents, namely, personal, economic, information-related, and the motivating factors that seemingly encourage women join cooperatives. The study was conducted in selected barangays in seven municipalities in southern Nueva Vizcaya, four of which Here categorized as upland while the remaining three municipalities as lowland. The respondents of the study consisted of 172 randomly selected women. Of this number, 94 women were from the lowland and 78 were from the upland. The descriptive statistics which include frequency counts, percentages, means and standard deviations were used to describe the women's characteristics along their personal, economic, and information-related factors as well which made them join cooperatives. 85 the motivating factors. The t-test was used to compare the lowland and upland women’s degree of participation in the five phases of organization process of development projects undertaken by the cooperatives. The five phases are: identification of needs, problems and resources available in the barangay; planning and programming of projects, implementation of projects; management of projects; and monitoring and evaluation of projects. The multiple regression and correlation analysis was used to establish the relationship between the dependent variable (degree of participation) and the independent variables (personal, economic, and information-related factors as well as their reason for joining cooperatives). Findings Results revealed that the type of cooperative most joined by both lowland and upland women is the multi-purpose cooperative or MPC owing to the various services offered by this type of cooperative. These women are in their late thirties, a little less than 50% of them had only reached elementary education and had stayed in their place of residence for more than 20 years. The average number of surviving children of the respondents is five. More than 80% of them are in the farming trade. The average size of their farm is more than one hectare where more than 70% declared ownership on the parcel of land they cultivate. The respondents are relatively "well-informed" cooperatives. This is broadcast, although more the radio. as regards the result of their exposure to radio than 90% of them "seldom listen" Almost all of them used printed materials of information on cooperatives in the form over as source of brochures, pamphlets, leaflets, and posters arranged according to the degree of preference of the respondents. In all the areas or activities of the five phases of organizational process of development programs, lowland women involvement was categorized under the "seldom participation". The same degree of participation was observed of upland women except in two areas of participation in the management phase where they "often participate", in helping organize people maintain sustain projects and lead people in maintaining projects. Lowland women are significantly "more active" in the indicator "assisting in putting together collected data from questionnaires and meetings" under Participation Area I identification of needs, problems and resources of the barangay; "identifying/suggesting activities" under Participation Area II "planning and programming"; and "joining groups or committees" under Participation III in the implementation stage, compared to their upland counterparts. Upland women, on as the other hand are "more active" in leading people maintain project which is under the management stage than their colleagues in the lowland. Lowland gave significantly more emphasis women in the encouragement of self-reliance and self-help among family members, access on loans credit from banks and other lending institutions and the establishment of good working relationship anong rural people and field workers an motivating factors which made then join cooperatives as compared to the upland women. The personal, economic, information-related, and motivating factors which affect women join cooperatives were found to be significantly correlated with the degree of their participation in all the five phases of organization process of projects undertaken by the cooperatives. This indicates that the degree of their involvement in the identification of needs, problems and resources available in the barangay; planning and programming of projects, implementation of projects; management of projects; and monitoring and evaluation of projects is anchored on the four sets of variables inherent to the women, both from upland and lowland areas as well as when they are considered together. Utilization of langka (arthocarpus integra L.) and tiessa (Lucuma nervosa) seeds flour in the preparation of snack items/

xxi, 125 leaves : , This study was conducted to determine the possibility of replacing some amount of the wheat flour used in the preparation of snack items such as doughnut, polvoron, and palitao. The Indigenous source of wheat flour replacement were langka and tiessa seeds. The proportion of wheat flour replaced in the preparation of the snack items constitute the treatments evaluated. These include 0% replacement or 100%-0% wheat flour indigenous flour mixture (T1), 25% replacement of 75%-25% mixture (T2). 50% replacement or 50%-50% mixture (T3), and 75% replacement or 25%-75% mixture (T4). A panel of ten evaluators evaluated the products based on color and appearance, texture, flavor and aroma, and overall acceptability using the Hedonic scale. Using the ten evaluators as replication, the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used to analyze the qualities of the snack items. Results of the study revealed that tiessa seeds had a flour yield of 54.8% while langka seeds had 51.6%. Comparable color was observed in doughnut and polvoron made from different wheat and langka seed flour proportions. Palitao made from pure glutinous rice flour had the best quality in terma of color. The appearance of doughnut is not affected by the different flour proportions. Polvoron made from pure wheat flour and from 75%-25% flour proportion and palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour gave the best quality in terms of appearance. Doughnut and polvoron made from pure wheat flour and from 75%-25% flour proportions, and palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour have superior quality in terms of smoothness. All the flour combinations produced doughnute with comparable qualities in terms of dryness. Polvoron made from 100% wheat flour and 75%-25% wheat and langka seed flour mixture have superior quality in terms of dryness. Palitao made from pure glutinous rice flour had the best quality in terms of moistness. The cohesiveness of doughnut is not influenced by wheat and langka seed flour proportions while polvoron made from pure wheat flour had the best quality in terms of cohesiveness. Doughnut made from pure wheat flour and 50%-50% mixture and palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour exhibited the best quality in terms of tenderness. The aroma of the three snack items studied is not influenced by the proportions of wheat and langka seed flour. Doughnut made from pure wheat flour and 50%-50% mixture and palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour gave the best quality in terms of flavor. Polvoron's flavor in not affected by langka need flour. Doughnut made from pure wheat flour. from 75%-25% and 50%-50% wheat and langka seed flour proportions had the best quality in terms of acceptability. Palitao made from pure glutinous rice is the most acceptable while the proportions of flour combinations did not influence the acceptability of polvoron. Polvoron made from pure wheat flour and from 50%-50% wheat and tiessa seed flour mixture exhibited the best quality in terme of color while pure wheat produced the doughnut with the best appearance. Palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour gave the best qualities in terms of color and appearance. Wheat and tiessa seed flour proportions did not influence the color and appearance of doughnuts. The smoothness, cohesiveness and tenderness of doughnut are affected by the different wheat and tiessa seed flour not proportions. Doughnuts made from 100%-0%, 75%-25%, and 50%-50% wheat and tiessa seed flour mixtures had the best qualities in terms of dryness. The smoothness of polvoron is not affected by wheat and tiessa seed flour mixtures but in terms of dryness, the 100% wheat flour produced the best. Palitao made from pure glutinous rice flour are the best in terms of smoothness. moistness, cohesiveness and tenderness. The aroma of doughnut, polvoron and palitao is not influenced by wheat (or glutinous rice flour in the case of palitao) and tiessa seed flour proportions. The same trend was observed in the flavor of doughnut. Polvoron made from 100%-0%. 50%-50%, and 25%-75% wheat and tiessa seed flour mixtures had the best quality in terms of flavor while palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour is the best in terms of flavor. The acceptability of doughnut and polvoron is not affected by different wheat and tiessa seed flour combinations. In the case of palitao, the 100%-0% glutinous rice and tiessa need flour mixture is the most acceptable. Overall, 50%-50% wheat and langka seed flour proportions and 75%-25% wheat and tiessa seed flour are recommended for making doughnuts. A mixture 25%-75% wheat and langka seed flour or wheat and tiessa seed flour is more preferred in making polvoron. Neither langka nor tiensa seed flour is recommended as substitute for glutinous rice flour in making palitao. Writing difficulties in english among selected first year college students at the Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology/

xiii, 123 leaves : , The study explored the writing difficulties in the learning of writing among selected first year English classes of the Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology for School Year 1994-1995. The study made use of the descriptive-normative survey. Thirty (30) students randomly selected (15 BSEED, with a mean age of 20.3 and 15 BSHT students, with a mean age of 18.2), with an average IQ of "Below Average" for BSEEd and "Very Low" for the BSHT (based on the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) Form J composed the study group. The students were given writing lessons using Dictocomp, Diotogloss, Guided Writing, and Free Writing. Writing Difficulties met by the students were tested along the following dimensions: 1. Organization 2. Content3. Structure Similarly, differences in the writing difficulties of the subjects along a) age; b) course enrolled in; c) NCEE scores; d) high school graduated from; e) socio-economic status; f) educational attainment of parents; g) reading materials at home; h) I.Q level based on the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT); (Form J) were explored. Furthermore, the implications of these writing difficulties for improving teaching and Communication Arts in English were studied. learning of To test whether the difficulties differed significantly along Organization, Content and Structure (mechanics), data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The t-test for independent samples was used to test differences along such variables as age course enrolled in, NCEE score, high school graduated from, socio-economic status, educational attainment of parents, reading materials at home, and IQ level based on the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) Form J. The findings of the study are summarized as follows: 1. Under Organization, the mean achievement of the students in Free Writing and Dictocomp was significantly different from the student's mean achievement in Guided Writing. 2. Under Content, the mean achievement of the students in Dictocomp (75.3) was significantly different from their mean achievement in Guided Writing (72.9). 3. Under Structure/mechanics the mean achievements of the students across the four levels of writing (Free Writing, Guided Writing, Dictocomp and Diotogloss, were significantly different 4. Along the variables: age; course enrolled in: NCEE score; high school graduated from; socio-economic status; educational attainment of parents; reading materials at home and IQ level based on the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) Form J, the mean achievements of the students did not significantly differ. Based on the findings of this study, the following conclusions are arrived at: Under Organization, the study group achieved better in Free Writing than in Guided Writing. They also achieve better in Dictocomp than in Guided Writing. Under Content, the students achieved better in Dictocomp than in Guided Writing. Under Structure, the students do not differ in their writing difficulties across the four levels writing. Age does not introduce any variation in the writing difficulties of the students. The BSHT students. experience more writing difficulties than the BSEEd group under Dictocomp and Dictogloss. The students with low NCEE percentile ratings experience more writing difficulties than the students with high NCEE ratings under Dictocomp and Dictogloss. The writing difficulties of the students categorized into "Public" and "Private" based on high school graduated from do not differ under Guided Writing, Dictocomp, and Dictogloss, but differ under Free Writing. Students who come from low-income families do not necessarily achieve less than those students who come from high income families. Interestingly, students with parents of "low" educational attainment as well as students with parents of "high" educational attainment have the same writing achievement. Books and Periodicals do not create any difference in the writing difficulties of students. Such findings warrants a need to go deeper into this problem through an in depth study. In the light of the findings in this study, the following recommendations are arrived at: A review of the course syllabus in the language teaching testing program of the Institute should be undertaken: A thorough improvement the language testing program centering on the basic rules on grammar and rhetoric is deemed necessary: A replication of this study using a larger sample and involving public and private institutions of higher learning may generate needed information that may redound to better teaching of English classes at the Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology (NVSIT) and elsewhere. | Thesis (Master of Education - Language, Reading and Numeracy) 28 cm..
