Teachers' personal - professional profile job - related variables and their relationship with their performance rating/

xii, 90 leaves : , This study was conducted to determine the general teaching performance level of Central School teachers in the Division of Quirino and identify factors that correlate with it. Specifically, the study sought to determine the following the personal-professional profile of the Central School teachers in the Division of Quirino, the general teaching performance rating of the Central School teachers in the Division of Quirino, whether there is a significant difference in the teaching performance ratings of Central School teachers when grouped according to some selected personal-professional variables, the relationship between teaching performance ratings of Central School teachers and job-related variables, and, to ascertain problems that need to be addressed in order to enhance teacher performance. This study was conducted among 115 randomly selected Central School teachers from the seven (7) Central Schools in the Division of Quirino. The statistical tools used include descriptive statistics in the form of frequency distribution, percentage and mean for the presentation of data on personal-professional characteristics of respondents, and the rating scores given for every job-related variable F-test and t-test were used to test whether there were significant differences in theteaching performance ratings of teachers when grouped according to personal-professional variables while simple and multiple correlation analysis were utilized to determine the relationship between performance rating and job-related variables The study established that the general performance rating of Central School teachers in the Division of Quirino was on the "Very Satisfactory" level. Results of the study showed that there was no significant difference in the performance ratings of Central School teachers when grouped according to age, gender, civil status, number of children and length of service. On the other hand, it was found out that the teachers' performance ratings differed significantly when grouped according to educational attainment, teaching rank, and number of trainings attended. When the job-related variables were tested, only the motivation factors, degree of exposure to supervision, use of appropriate teaching materials and community-teacher relations were found to have a significant relationship with performance rating When the job-related variables such as the motivation factors, degree of exposure to supervision, interpersonal relations, community-teacher relations adequacy of teaching materials and use of appropriate teaching materials were tested for correlation with performance rating, it was found out that all the job-related variables have significant relationship with the performance ratings of the Central School teachers Results of this study further revealed that the three main problems that confront Central School teachers were too many extra and co-curricular activities, insufficient number of textbooks, references and periodicals and extra and co-curricular activities are expensive and require personal expenses. | Thesis (Master of Education - Educational Administration) 28 cm..

Productvity of school canteens in Nueva Vizcaya: an analysis/

xv, 81 leaves : , This study was conducted to determine the socio-demographic profile of the canteen managers in Nueva Vizcaya, identify the foodservice profile of the school canteen managers' practices in the different foodservice functions; ascertain the differences of the canteen manager's profile with their foodservice practices; the age and educational attainment and net income; the foodservice profile and net income and determine the rating of the canteen manager's foodservice practices and problems encountered. Thirty different school canteens in elementary, secondary and tertiary levels of both public and private institutions in Nueva Vizcaya were included in this study. The general result of the study indicates that majority of those managing the school canteen were degree holders specifically Home Economics and Livelihood Education (HELE) teachers for the elementary and Technology and Home Economics (THE) teachers in the secondary schools. In general, the school canteens in Nueva Vizcaya are newly operated (1-4 years) with faculty contributions as source of capital and P5,000.00 and above capital invested to start the food business. Most school canteens are centrally located and near the administrative building. The canteens operate from 8 to 10 hours a day with small seating capacity. Majority of the respondents buy their food supply in the public market, according to food standard measurement, compared prices and particular with brand names and reading nutrition labels. All of the managers buy foods in their fresh form. Food preference of customers and nutritional requirements are considered when planning a menu to be sold in the canteen. Majority of the managers inspect the condition of delivered goods, always keep storage facilities clean, practice food costing and vary the food cooked everyday. They are also aware of proper waste disposal and proper drainage system. A strong association indicates a highly significant difference exists between the type of market patronized, the different considerations in food buying and menu planned with the educational attainment of the canteen managers. Both the age and educational attainment of the canteen managers showed a significant difference between the two variables. The length of operation of the school canteen showed significant relationship with net income. As the amount of capital increases, the net income also increases which means that the amount of capital invested have significant difference with the net income, just as the bigger the school population, the more customers or clienteles, the bigger is the earning. Overall analysis showed that receiving and foodservice functions that the canteen managers practiced was rated to be "good" and "very good" respectively, while food buying practices, menu planning, storage practices and sanitation practices were rated only as "fair" based on the arbitrary scale made. The most pressing problems encountered by school canteen managers ranked in their order were: malpractices in purchasing goods, menu planning practices, receiving practices, and cost control practices. | Thesis (Master of Science-Home Technology) 28 cm..

xii, 178 leaves : , The main thrust of this study was focused on the assessment of the levels of questions asked by Grade II English teachers in the Division of Nueva Vizcaya and their relation to personal and professional variables. The descriptive method of research was used in order to gather the needed data in the study. A set of questionnaire was designed to gather data from the teacher-respondents. The questions analyzed and classified were taken from the tests constructed by the teacher-respondents administered during the fourth periodical examination of the school year 1999-2000. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to describe the data and to test the null hypotheses. To determine the profile of the teacher-respondents, percentage, frequency count, weighted mean, and mean were employed. The Chi-square was used in determining the relationships between the levels of questions and the personal and professional variables. Findings: 1. The Grade 11 English teachers in the Division of Nueva Vizcaya were: in late adulthood years, female, with four average family size, with low standard ofliving, holders of BSEEd/BEEd degrees with M.A. units, specializing English, teaching English for an average years of 21.69, ranked Teacher 1 and Teacher III, rated very satisfactorily, receiving an average monthly salary of P9,757.03, attending in-service training in preparing instructional materials, and in measuring and evaluating English Teaching outcomes. 2. The Grade 11 English teachers in the Division of Nueva Vizcaya constructed predominantly questions in the literal level. 3. Levels of questions were significantly related to teachers' age, gender, family size, standard of living, educational attainment, field of specialization, length of experience in teaching English, monthly salary, in-service training in measuring and evaluating English teaching outcomes. Factors affecting the mathematics achievement of entering grade II pupils in Bagabag district/

xii, 82 leaves : , This study focused on the factors affecting the mathematics achievement of entering grade two pupils in Bagabag District. The research method used was descriptive survey. Findings: 1. The pupil-respondents of the study were composed generally of 130 males and 132 females. Most of them had satisfactory grades in Math I and English 1, and about three-fourths attended preschool education. 2. One-third of the teacher-respondents were very young. Most of them were females, married, with M.A/M.S. units, no specific field of specialization, new in the teaching service, with Teacher-1 position, very satisfactory performance ratings, no trainings in Mathematics and about half of them were involved in co-curricular activities 3. Majority of the pupil-respondents were within the "average" level of mathematics achievement. 4. The mathematics achievement between the male and female pupil-respondents had no significant difference. However, pupils with preschool attendance hadsignificantly higher mathematics achievement than those without preschool attendance. 5. Final grades in Math 1 and English I were significantly correlated to mathematics achievement 6. Age, civil status, number of teaching years, teaching position, performance rating, trainings attended by teacher-respondents had significant relationship to pupils' mathematics achievement. On the other hand, highest educational attainment, field of specialization and co-curricular activities involvement of grade one teachers had no significant relationship to the mathematics achievement of pupils. 7. Occupation of parents and size of family had no significant relationship to mathematics achievement of pupils. Recommendations: This study recommends that teachers should be encouraged to pursue a specialization in accredited schools particularly in mathematics. They should likewise be encouraged to attend seminars, workshops, trainings and the like to upgrade their mathematics proficiency. xii, 92 leaves : , This descriptive study was conducted to determine the factors that affect the language preferences and the attitudes toward music among teacher education students of Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology. Results of the study revealed that in the teacher education institution, the female students dominated the male students in terms of frequency. Most of the students are enrolled in the BEED program; majority came from public high schools; and the Ilocanos outnumbered the non-Ilocano students. Overall, the students showed very good grades in college music. Generally, the students seldom attend to music activities, they were categorized as "trying hard" players of musical instruments, and, self was considered as the first factor influencing musicality. Most of them have formal music lessons but they preferred only to be spectators of any musical shows/programs. The students showed a satisfactory performance on a Teacher-made Music Achievement Test; the use of multilingualism in the teaching of music is more preferred; and, most of the students revealed positive attitudes toward music. The language preferences in the learning of music has nothing to do with gender, type of high school graduated from and grades in music. However, language preferences are relatively dependent to course and ethnicity.The musical preferences and the performance of the students on a Teacher-made Music Achievement Test had no significant differences to the language preferences. The attitudes toward music had no significant differences in terms of course, type of high school graduated from, ethnicity and grade in music. However, gender was found to have significant difference on the attitudes toward music, which implies that female students have higher positive attitudes toward music than male students. The musical preferences and the performance on the Teacher-made Music Achievement Test did not affect the attitudes toward music. Based on the findings and conclusions drawn, the following recommendations are forwarded: 1. Teachers teaching music should consider using multilingualism when teaching concepts of music in all levels. 2. Curriculum-makers should improve music education considering the medium of instruction. Additional units for music subjects in the tertiary level especially in the BEED program should be considered to further develop and enhance the musicality of all individuals 0 3. The Institute should provide the students various musical experiences such as singing contests, instrumental playing contest, rhythmic activities, etc. for them to develop and cultivate better music appreciation. 4.
