Forty member-borrowers from each of the NORLU-affiliated cooperatives and mon-NORLU-affiliated cooperatives were interviewed. The impact of the loans extended and the affiliation of the cooperative offering the loans were dependent with each other suggesting that they were significantly related to the income of the borrowers. Majority of the clientele of the NORLU-affiliated cooperativen had neccumulated gains while most of the non-NORLU-nffilinted cooperativen borrowers reported unchanged economic status after the loan was granted. Effectiveness of the loaning policies. The cooperative loaning policies when considered together, has no relationship with the cooperatives income. Considering the different policies independently with each other. the loan requirements for salary loans has the highest correlation with the income followed by the maturity of the salary loans, interest rate for salary loans, and loan requirements for the providential loan. Eight of the 16 loaning policies considered were found to be effective in defining the loan needs satisfaction of the member-borrowers. These were the loan requirements for productive. providential, and salary loans, maturity date for providential loan, interest rate for the salary loan, and loanable amount the productive, providential, and salary loans. for The member-borrowers income was dictated by eight of the 16 loaning policies considered. These were loan requirements for productive, providential. and emergency loans, the maturity schedule for productive and providential loans, the interest rate for the emergency loan, and loanable amount for the productive and providential loans. The loaning policies were not effective in defining the repayment performance of the member-borrowers. The age of the member-borrowers was a determinant that defined their repayment performance. Educational attainment and occupation, however, were not related with the member-borrower'e repayment performance. Conclusions: Based on the results of the findings, the following major conclusions are drawn: (a), during the 1989 to 1991 the cooperatives. the average annual net operations of income of the NORLU-affiliated cooperative in significantly higher than the net income of the non-NOBLU-affiliated cooperatives; (b). cooperative loaning policies when considered together, have relationship with the cooperative's income. the no Considering the different policies independently, the loan requirements for nalary loans has the histhest correlation with the income, followed by maturity of the salary loans: interest rate for salary loans: and loan requirements for the providential loan; (c), eight of the 16 loaning policies considered were found to be effective in defining the loan needs satisfaction of the member-borrowers. Recommendations: Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations are hereby forwarded: (a) capital build-up should be a major concern of cooperatives. This recommendation is borne out of the fact that NORLU-affiliated cooperatives with higher capital performed better as compared to the non-NORLU-affiliated cooperatives in terms of their average annual income: (b) per findings of the study, the leaning policy on loan requirements have significant impact on satisfaction and income. the cooperative's income, borrowers It is therefore recommended that cooperatives with credit ventures should impose some sort of security measures before granting loans to borrowers; and (c) the study did not take into account cultural considerations as focus was limited only in the province of Ifugao. along this line is hereby recommended to its A further study evaluate the effect of cultural factors on the performance of cooperatives with different affiliations. | Thesis (Master of Science in Rural Development) 28 cm..

Place hold on Effectiveness of the loaning policies of the norlu and non-norlu affiliated cooperatives in the province of Ifugao/

Factors associated with role performance of development faciitators in the agrarian reform communities in Nueva Vizcaya/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Obena, Marilyn G..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 1998 .
xv, 115 leaves : , This study was undertaken to determine the level of performance of the Development Facilitators (DFS) of Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) who weте assigned in different Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) in the province Nueva Vizcaya during the year 1997, and to correlation between role performance and job-related factors. role the the of ascertain the some personal and A questionnaire used was to collect the necessary information from 27 DFs randomly picked from the 29 DFs and MAROs in the province. 15 Four hypotheses were tested using correlation and regression analysis, and the results were as follows: 1. The role performance of the DFs was found to be highly associated (r=0.87) with their personal factors. Results revealed that role performance is enhanced by being married, with less number of children, higher educational attainment, higher position, longer years in the service with DAR, having received awards or incentives, having positive attitude towards work. having their needs satisfied, and with a about the innate nature of other people. positive perception 2. The job-related factors such as accessibility of the DF to the ARC, capability of the BARC in performing its functions, support of the MARO to the DF, and adequacy of material and financial resources, when considered collectively significantly enhanced role performance of the DFs; and 5. When taken individually, the job-related factors such as capability of the BARC, and support of the MARO were significantly associated with role performance. On the basis of the findings and conclusions, it is recommended that since the personal factors considered in the study interactively and collectively affect role performance of the DF, efforts must be made by the DFs themselves, the MAROS, the DAR management and other concerned agencies to strengthen those variables which has positive contribution to role performance. These personal variables are marital status, number of children, educational attainment, position in the DAR, years of service with DAR, awards or incentives, capability in performing technical skills, attitude towards work, needs satisfaction, perception of respondents on other people's innate nature. The DAR should also see to it that the Barangay Agrarian Reform Committee (BARC) should be strengthened and reactivated and that Municipal Agrarian Reform Officers should be more supportive of their DFs. It is also recommended that a study to determine the difficulties of the DFs in performing their roles be conducted. Finally, a study which will focus on the negative and unusual findings of the study such as the deductive effect of higher salary, attendance in relevant trainings, and self-esteem on role performance must be undertaken to evaluate the why such findings came out. reasons | Thesis (Master of Science-Rural Development) 28 cm..

Place hold on Factors associated with role performance of development faciitators in the agrarian reform communities in Nueva Vizcaya/

Causal-comparative assessment of the socio-economic health and nutritional dimensions of "lalakas ang katawang sapat sa sustansiya" (lakass) program/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Razalan. Jr, Marcelino T..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology, 1977 .
xiii, 130 leaves : , This study was conducted to assess the socio-economic, health and nutritional effects of the LAKASS Program implementation in the nutritionally depressed municipality (NDM) of Alfonso Castañeda, Nueva Vizcaya. A sample of 56 respondent households represented the 83 household beneficiaries in the benchmark survey. Information on the socio-economic, health and nutritional conditions of the beneficiaries were availed of for the comparative assessment of the changes brought about by the implementation of the LAKASS Program activities in that municipality. The information were analyzed through the use of descriptive statistics, t-test and chi-square (x) test for the socio-economic, health and nutritional changes in the houseliold beneficiaries conditions, and Multiple Regression and Correlation analysis and Pearson's Product Moment of Correlation for the relationship between the program implementation and the realized changes The indicators used for the socio-economic condition of the respondents were income, type and ownership of dwelling units, bousehold appliances and livestock ownership. Health and nutritional status indicators studied were, major source of drinking water, type of toilet facilities, garbage disposal practices, morbidity and weiglit for agemeasurement of preschool children, food diversity score, and body mass index (BMI) of adults Results showed that the LAKASS Program beneficiaries were of medium size family composed of live members, with female members slightly higher in number than male members. They subsist through farming irrigated lowland farms as tenant/worker or owner operator. Their education was generally low elementary undergraduates to elementary graduates. The implementation of the LAKASS Program activities strongly and positively correlated with the increased income of the beneficiaries, from P14,399 to P24,337 per annum. Of the program activities, vending/livelihood activities exerted the strongest influence. Though a strong and positive correlation was exerted by the implementation of the program, it did not result in charge in the ownership and type of dwelling units of the respondents. A significant increase in the ownership of inexpensive household appliances was noted which showed that the program implementation had a strong and positive correlation with the increase in inexpensive household appliances There were no significant changes in the livestock ownership of the respondents were observed, as a result by the implementation of the LAKASS Program. The significant and highly significant increase in the use of sanitary toilets such as water-sealed and antipolo/closed pit toilets were correlated strongly and positively to the implementation of the LAKASS Program However, the traditional garbage disposal practices of the respondents did not change. The relationship of the program implementation and this variatile is very weak. The result of the study on the morbidity rate of preschool children affecting child 1 and 2 did not significantly change. Except for fever which significantly decreased, diseases which affected child 3 did not change The LAKASS Program implementation and themorbidity rates of preschoolers reflected a weak correlation. This suggests that the LAKASS Program hardly affected the health habits of the respondents This points out that the LAKASS Program implementation failed to curb the high mortality rates of preschool children due to sickness The average weight for age measurements of most of the preschool children did not change except for those who were less than a year old and five years of age which significantly increased. Of the LAKASS Program activities, only deworming exerted a significant, yet weak correlation, on the weight of preschoolers. The body mass index (BMI) measurements of adults showed a significant decrease in underweight and a significant increase on those who were overweight mothers. It was also done to analyze the relationship of participation in the azolla program with the respondent's demographic, and psychological characteristics, as well as with community-related factors. A sample of seventy-one women participants/adopters of azolla technology representing the available population of about 100, who attended the trainings in the selected six municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya was drawn by purposive sampling. An interview schedule consisting of four parts was used to gather the needed information. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, and multiple regression and correlation analyses. The demographic factors studied were as follows: ethnicity, religious affiliation, family income, family size, educational attainment, land tenure status, membership in organization, and working in the farm or not Psychological factors included were aside from household. The Psychological factors include were the positive and negative components of attitude such as, thoughts, feelings and behavioral tendencies. While the community related consisted of the environmental (physical and biological factors aspects of the farming system such as, distance and type of water source for the farm, location of farm, cropping pattern, combination of commodities, and project component implemented), decision-making patterns (who dominates in the farm and household), technical assistance / resource constraints (satisfaction on external services received), and socio-cultural influences (degree influence exerted to women-participants by various groups). The participation in azolla program was high, moderate, low, and very low participation. categorized into high, moderate, low, and very low participation. Statement of Hypotheses The hypotheses tested were as follows: 1. Nueva Vizcaya women's participation in meetings, trainings, workshops and other similar activities do not significantly correlate with demographic, psychological, and community-related factors and their combination. 2. Nueva Vizcaya women's participation in planning. implementation, and evaluation of azolla program do not significantly correlate with demographic, psychological, and community-related factors and their combination. 3. Nueva Vizcaya activities women's related to in participation azolla project various do not significantly correlate with demographic, psychological, and community-related factors and their combination. Findings Results showed that the respondents were predominantly Ilocano; mostly Roman Catholics; low income earners; and had a mean family size of five. Majority have relatively higher education and farm owner-operators. More than half were members of an organization in the community. They worked in the aside from household chores and other occupation. They farm also involve themselves in various activities, as partners in decision making, and helper/unpaid worker in the farm and household. They were moderately motivated in their attitude thoughts. seen in their feelings, and behavioral tendencies towards azolla technology utilization. Their farms were generally near to water source which they used for irrigation. Monocropping was often practiced, while for a multicommodity, rice fish vegetable / livestock was most acceptable. The project component mostly implemented was azolla-rice. Ordinarily, husband and wife had independent, as joint decisions in managing the farm were made relative and household. Decisions were made relative to their needs and priorities. Their first priority regarding decisions capability and need for food. Women usually influenced men mostly in deciding when to borrow money. Moderate satisfaction to services received from implementing agency/ organization (such as; capital, loan, and credit; supply of inoculum; technical assistance; information and know how; contact with change agent; incentive and/or motivation; and other support services like irrigation, infrastructure and others) was also observed. Problems on irrigation remained to be an obstacle which was a factor needed to resolve first before considering participation in the azolla program. On the whole, the rural women's participation in the azol-la program in Nueva Vizcaya was moderate. The demographic factors, specifically being minor religious group, having low a member of family income, higher educational attainment, owning the land and working in the farm were significantly related to participation in meetings and other related activities. Similarly, the same variables with the addition of having larger family size and being a member and/or leader in organization made the demographic variables significantly related to participation in various activities related to azolla project. Generally, the respondents showed high motivation towards azolla technology. Majority of the respondents were highly motivated on the positive and negative thoughts, in the positive aspect of feeling as considered aspects of well as in the positive and negative behavioral behavioral tendencies. They were, however moderately motivated in terms of the negative feelings. On the average, however, they indicated moderate degree of motivation in all aspects of their attitude, whether thoughts, feelings or behavioral tendencies. The higher their motivation, the greater their participation. Azolla technology being perceived as beneficial, are acceptable to the farmers but, The community-related factors like farm near a water source; of pump use supplement 85 source of water aside from the irrigation; farm located in the interior plain; monocropping pattern; commodity combination using rice/fish/ vegetable /livestock; azolla-rice component: wife dominates in decision-making; being satisfied with external services; and implementing agency / organization having greater degree of influence to participation. women. were all significantly related to participation. The combination demographic, psychological, and community-related factors were significantly related to participation in meetings, and other similar activities and in various specific activities regarding azolla project, but not related to participation in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the azolla project. Using a backward stepwise regression, Model 2 was developed to arrive at a significant relationship between the dependent (participation in planning, Implementation, and evaluation) and independent (combined demographic, psychological and community-related factors) variables. Fourteen of the 23 predictors have negative or deductive effect on the level of participation in meetings, trainings, and workshops while the nine remaining variables (i.e., having higher educational attainment, working in the farm, being highly motivated or having favorable attitude, near to source of water, farm located in the interior plain, commodity combination being rice/fish/ vegetable/livestock, and implementing agency having greater degree of influence to women) have additive effect on participation. Thirteen of the 19 predictors from Model 2 have negative or deductive effect on the level of participation in planning, implementation and evaluation while the six remaining variables (i.e., being member of an organization, having favorable attitude or being highly motivated, location of farm being on the interior plain, practicing monocropping and implementing agency /influence organization having greater degree of effect on participation. Also, in participation in various specific activities, 14 of the 23 predictors have negative or deductive effect while the nine remaining variables (i.e., having larger family size, higher educational attainment, owning the land, being member and / or leader of an organization, having favorable attitude or being highly motivated, wife dominating in decision-making, and agency/organization having greater influence) have additive effect on participation. | Thesis (Master of Science in Rural Development) 28 cm..

Place hold on Women's participation in the azolla program of Nueva Vizcaya/

Correlates of performance among cecap development wokers/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Catiling, Alice Fontanilla.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 1998 .
xiii, 94 leaves : , The study was conducted to determine the overriding performance rating of CECAP development workers using the Performance Evaluation System (PES) developed by the Civil Service Commission and to ascertain if it correlates with selected personal and job-related factors. Total enumeration of the 24 GOLD Project pilot barangays in Nueva Vizcaya was conducted for attendance in the BDC, adoption into the Executive Budget and into the Appropriation Ordinance and implementation of BDC identified priority development projects/activities. Process involvement in the BDC considered 4 samples per barangay of the said 24 barangays totaling 96 respondents to an interview schedule. Percentages and frequencies were used in determining the degree of attendance and the degree of process involvement in the BDC from the data extracted from documented proceedings and interview schedule, respectively using forms especially designed for this study. Percentages and frequencies were also used in finding out the degree of influence of the BDC to the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch and the implementation of the BDC identified priority development projects/activities. The Pearson Product-Moment of correlation was utilized in determining the relationships of attendance and process involvement in the BDC with the adoption into the Executive Budget, into the Appropriation Ordinance, and with the implementation of BDC identified priority development projects/activities. Results showed "fair" to "high" attendance and "high process involvement" in the BDC Inspite of these, influence of the BDC to the Executive and Legislative actions to BDC identified priority development projects/activities is low. Specifically, the objectives of the study were to identify the degree of women's participation in the cooperative; to determine if there is difference in the women's degree of participation in the cooperative based on geographical locations, namely lowland and upland; and to analyze the relationships between women's participation in the cooperative and the four sets of factors inherent in the respondents, namely, personal, economic, information-related, and the motivating factors that seemingly encourage women join cooperatives. The study was conducted in selected barangays in seven municipalities in southern Nueva Vizcaya, four of which Here categorized as upland while the remaining three municipalities as lowland. The respondents of the study consisted of 172 randomly selected women. Of this number, 94 women were from the lowland and 78 were from the upland. The t-test was used to compare the lowland and upland women’s degree of participation in the five phases of organization process of development projects undertaken by the cooperatives. The five phases are: identification of needs, problems and resources available in the barangay; planning and programming of projects, implementation of projects; management of projects; and monitoring and evaluation of projects. The multiple regression and correlation analysis was used to establish the relationship between the dependent variable (degree of participation) and the independent variables (personal, economic, and information-related factors as well as their reason for joining cooperatives). Findings Results revealed that the type of cooperative most joined by both lowland and upland women is the multi-purpose cooperative or MPC owing to the various services offered by this type of cooperative. These women are in their late thirties, a little less than 50% of them had only reached elementary education and had stayed in their place of residence for more than 20 years. The average number of surviving children of the respondents is five. More than 80% of them are in the farming trade. The average size of their farm is more than one hectare where more than 70% declared ownership on the parcel of land they cultivate. The respondents are relatively "well-informed" cooperatives. This is broadcast, although more the radio. as regards the result of their exposure to radio than 90% of them "seldom listen" Almost all of them used printed materials of information on cooperatives in the form over as source of brochures, pamphlets, leaflets, and posters arranged according to the degree of preference of the respondents. In all the areas or activities of the five phases of organizational process of development programs, lowland women involvement was categorized under the "seldom participation". The same degree of participation was observed of upland women except in two areas of participation in the management phase where they "often participate", in helping organize people maintain sustain projects and lead people in maintaining projects. Lowland women are significantly "more active" in the indicator "assisting in putting together collected data from questionnaires and meetings" under Participation Area I identification of needs, problems and resources of the barangay; "identifying/suggesting activities" under Participation Area II "planning and programming"; and "joining groups or committees" under Participation III in the implementation stage, compared to their upland counterparts. Upland women, on as the other hand are "more active" in leading people maintain project which is under the management stage than their colleagues in the lowland. Lowland gave significantly more emphasis women in the encouragement of self-reliance and self-help among family members, access on loans credit from banks and other lending institutions and the establishment of good working relationship anong rural people and field workers an motivating factors which made then join cooperatives as compared to the upland women. The personal, economic, information-related, and motivating factors which affect women join cooperatives were found to be significantly correlated with the degree of their participation in all the five phases of organization process of projects undertaken by the cooperatives. This indicates that the degree of their involvement in the identification of needs, problems and resources available in the barangay; planning and programming of projects, implementation of projects; management of projects; and monitoring and evaluation of projects is anchored on the four sets of variables inherent to the women, both from upland and lowland areas as well as when they are considered together. Thus the null hypothesis were rejected. | Thesis (Master of Science in Rural Development) 28 cm..

Place hold on Upland and lowland women's participitaion cooperatives/

Factors associated with the acceptability of the certifictae of stewardship contract (csc) as a land tenurial system (lts) among the ayangan ifugaos/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Lantap, Nelson S..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 1996 .
xvii, 129 leaves : , The objective of this study was to determine the factors affecting the acceptability of the Certificate of Stewardship Contract (CSC) as a Land Tenurial System (LTS) among Ayangan Ifugao farmer-recipients and determine its relationship to the demographic characteristics of the respondents such as: age, sex, marital status, family size, educational attainment, place of origin, income, membership in organization, and size of land under the Certificate of Stewardship Contract; psychological variables such as: attitude towards the implementors, perceptions, aspirations; and socio-cultural variables such as customs and traditions as well as, ancestral beliefs. Acceptability of the Certificate of Stewardship Contract as a Land Tenurial System was the dependent variable. The acceptability of the program was of two categories: acceptability of the 50-year program and acceptability of responsibilities by the farmer- recipients as stipulated in the contract. Data used in the study were obtained from 65 out of 78 Ayangan farmer-recipients of the program through an Interview schedule translated into the Ayangan dialect. Descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, means, ranges and standard deviations were used in the study. Multiple Regression Analysis was used to determine the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The age of the recipients ranged from 17 to 73 years with mean of 41.86 years and standard deviation of 11.13 years. Thirty eight of the respondents were males accounting for fifty eight percent while twenty seven (27) accounted for the female group. Fifty of the recipients of the project were married while fifteen were single. Typical of mountain inhabitants, twenty seven of the respondents had low educational attainment accounting for 42%. This is closely followed by the group with medium educational attainment numbering twenty four; while fourteen had high educational attainment. Fifty three of the respondents were indigenous residents of the locality where the project were situated. Only twelve were migrants from nearby towns of Ifugao. Thirty five of the farmer-beneficiaries have low income (P10,000 and below per annum) while thirty were classified under high income earner (P10,001 and above) per annum. The findings of this study showed that the annual income ranged from P1000 to P24,000 and the computed average income was P842.21/month. belong to any existing active members of Thirty seven of the respondents did not organization while twenty eight were organization such as cooperatives operating in the area. Forty of the respondents belong to the small-land holding group who owned areas smaller than 2.42 hectares. The remaining twenty five of the recipients owned 2.43 hectares or more of land under the Certificate of Stewardship Contract. The respondents' degree of acceptability of the 50-year arrangement is between moderate and highly acceptable levels. This is manifested by the mean acceptability rating of 3.17. The standard deviation was 1.21 which indicates a relatively wide disparity on the respondent's attitude towards the land tenurial arrangement. None among the nine demographic variables significantly correlated with the degree of acceptability of the 50-year land tenurial arrangement. Only the age of the respondents showed significant correlation with the acceptability of the 50-year tenurial arrangement. The perception and aspiration of the respondents highly correlated with the acceptability of the 50-year land tenure arrangement while the attitude of the recipients did not. All the variables were found to have positive effect on the acceptability of the 50-year land tenure arrangement. The customs and traditions as well as the ancestral beliefs of the respondent's were not correlated with the acceptability of the 50-year land tenure arrangement, whether taken together (multiple) or individually (simple). Both, however, had positive effects on the degree of acceptability. Fifteen of the sixty five respondents representing 23.08% were found to have high acceptability of their responsibilities as beneficiaries of the Certificate of Stewardship Contract, twenty five representing 38.46% moderately accepted, twelve representing 18.46% fairly accepted and thirteen representing 20% have not accepted. As a whole, the respondents degree of acceptability of their responsibility is somewhere between fairly and moderately acceptable. This is manifested by the mean acceptable rating of 2.65. Using Multiple regression the nine demographic on variables, none came out to be significantly correlated with the acceptability of the responsibility of the recipients as stipulated in the Certificate of Stewardship Contract. The perception of the recipients on the project was correlated with their acceptability of their responsibility as beneficiaries of the Certificate of Stewardship Contract. Their attitudes towards the project and perceptions have no relationship with the acceptability of their responsibility. Considering the two socio-cultural variables together, the customs and traditions of the recipients were found to be significantly correlated with the acceptability of their responsibility. Furthermore, these had a positive effect on the level of acceptability while ancestral belief had negative effect. | Thesis (Master of Science in Rural Development) 28 cm..

Place hold on Factors associated with the acceptability of the certifictae of stewardship contract (csc) as a land tenurial system (lts) among the ayangan ifugaos/

Adoption of farming practices by the indigenous peoples in the uplands of Nueva Vizcaya/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Manantan, Renato P..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 1999 .
xiv, 75 leaves : , The main objective of this study was to analyze the factors that relate to the degree of adoption of farming practices by the indigenous peoples in the uplands of Nueva Vizcaya. Specifically, it sought to: (1) identify the farming practices in the uplands of Nueva Vizcaya adhered to by the indigenous peoples; (2) ascertain the relationships between degree of adoption of farming practices in the uplands and the indigenous farmers' demographic characteristics, socio-economic variables, perceptions on farming practices, and ecological variables; (3) identify which of these variables were influential in the adoption of farming practices in the uplands. Using the descriptive-analytical method, the study involved 250 indigenous peoples involved in upland farming as respondents, broken down into: 50 from the Ibalois located in Kayapa Central, 50 from the Ifugaos of Malabing Valley, 50 from the Kankanaeys of the northern part of the uplands of Dupax del Norte, 50 from the Ikalahans/Kalanguyas of Imugan, and 50 from the Bugkalots in the southern part of Dupax del Norte and Sur. Data gathering instrument used was a structured questionnaire. Analysis and interpretation of data made use of frequencies, percentages, means, and regression and correlation. Mean age of the respondents was 39.82 years. There were 168 males and 82 females. Almost one-half of the respondents have stayed in their present residence and have been farming for more than 20 years. About one-half of them reached elementary level. The average size of family was six. Majority of the respondents had income below P40,000 per annum which was way below the 1997 poverty threshold of P61,488. The average size of farm was 1.03 hectares, Farm-to-market roads in more than two thirds of the areas were accessible and transportation to bring their produce to market was available. Credit was considered available. In most cases, farming operations were done by up to three household members. Capability of the extension agents was considered by about one-half of the respondents as "low". There were more indigenous people who had positive perception on the advantages and benefits of modern/non-indigenous farming practices than those who had negative perceptions. Two-thirds of the respondents were high to moderately high adopters of modern/non-indigenous technology. There were 8.4% who were found to be very high adopters. The degree of adoption of modern/non-indigenous farming practices by the indigenous peoples in the uplands was significantly related to the demographic variables. The degree of adoption of modern/non-indigenous farming practices by the indigenous peoples in the uplands was significantly related to the socio-economic variables. The degree of adoption of modern/non-indigenous farming practices by the indigenous peoples in the uplands was not significantly related to their perception on the advantages and benefits of modern/non-indigenous farming practices. The degree of adoption of modern/non-indigenous farming practices by the indigenous peoples in the uplands was significantly related to the ecological variables. The degree of adoption modern/non-indigenous farming practices by the indigenous peoples in the uplands was significantly related to the combined independent variables such as demographic characteristics, socio-economic and ecological factors and the respondents' perception of the advantages and benefits of modern/non-indigenous farming practices. | Thesis (Master of Science-Home Technology) 28 cm..

Place hold on Adoption of farming practices by the indigenous peoples in the uplands of Nueva Vizcaya/

Zero-waste food processing of carrot (Daucus carota Linn.)/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Sierra, Susan Sumila.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 2002 .
xiv, 106 leaves : , This study was conducted to determine the zero-waste utilization of all the parts of carrot plant such as leaves, stalk/stem, pulp or flesh and peelings into processed food. The indigenous recipes utilizing all parts of the carrot plant used as follows for the leaves fish sinigang, for stem/stalk pickles, flesh/pulp cake, puto and beverage, and peelings or skin - flan and chips The sensory attributes evaluated on the finished products were color and appearance, texture, flavor and aroma, and overall acceptability using the hedonic scale A comparison-paired t-test was used to analyze the finished products. Results of the study revealed that the utilization of carrot leaves as ingredient in fish stew (sinigang) was as desirable and acceptable in color and appearance, texture, flavor and taste as the control (mustard leaves) The stem/stalk of carrot used in the preparation of pickles were comparable to the papaya pickles in flavor and taste. The color, texture and acceptability of carrot stem/stalk pickles were significantly different from papaya pickles (control). Carrot cake compared favorably with the control butter cake in color and appearance, texture, flavor and taste and general acceptability. The carrot ingredient did not affect the sensory attributes of the cake in fact it was as desirable as the control. In the case of puto, it was observed that the food product carrot puto was as desirable in appearance, texture, flavor and taste and acceptable as the control steamed cake (puto) The flavor and general acceptability of papaya and carrot delight were significantly different. Carrot delight showed tendency to become less acceptable. However, carrot delight had a desirable color and appearance and texture as the papaya delight (control). As to the preparation of flan snack item, the appearance and taste of carrot flan was less desirable and less acceptable as the leche flan. The utilization of carrot peelings into chips was significantly different in appearance, texture and overall acceptability. However, it was found out that carrot chips had similar taste and flavor as the potato chips. Since the leaves and skin/peeling of the carrots are free, there is more profit as to cost and return when made into snack items. | Thesis (Master of Science-Home Technology) 28 cm..

Place hold on Zero-waste food processing of carrot (Daucus carota Linn.)/

Utilization of langka (arthocarpus integra L.) and tiessa (Lucuma nervosa) seeds flour in the preparation of snack items/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Valeros, Florizel G..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 1997 .
xxi, 125 leaves : , This study was conducted to determine the possibility of replacing some amount of the wheat flour used in the preparation of snack items such as doughnut, polvoron, and palitao. The Indigenous source of wheat flour replacement were langka and tiessa seeds. The proportion of wheat flour replaced in the preparation of the snack items constitute the treatments evaluated. These include 0% replacement or 100%-0% wheat flour indigenous flour mixture (T1), 25% replacement of 75%-25% mixture (T2). 50% replacement or 50%-50% mixture (T3), and 75% replacement or 25%-75% mixture (T4). A panel of ten evaluators evaluated the products based on color and appearance, texture, flavor and aroma, and overall acceptability using the Hedonic scale. Using the ten evaluators as replication, the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used to analyze the qualities of the snack items. Results of the study revealed that tiessa seeds had a flour yield of 54.8% while langka seeds had 51.6%. Comparable color was observed in doughnut and polvoron made from different wheat and langka seed flour proportions. Palitao made from pure glutinous rice flour had the best quality in terma of color. The appearance of doughnut is not affected by the different flour proportions. Polvoron made from pure wheat flour and from 75%-25% flour proportion and palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour gave the best quality in terms of appearance. Doughnut and polvoron made from pure wheat flour and from 75%-25% flour proportions, and palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour have superior quality in terms of smoothness. All the flour combinations produced doughnute with comparable qualities in terms of dryness. Polvoron made from 100% wheat flour and 75%-25% wheat and langka seed flour mixture have superior quality in terms of dryness. Palitao made from pure glutinous rice flour had the best quality in terms of moistness. The cohesiveness of doughnut is not influenced by wheat and langka seed flour proportions while polvoron made from pure wheat flour had the best quality in terms of cohesiveness. Doughnut made from pure wheat flour and 50%-50% mixture and palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour exhibited the best quality in terms of tenderness. The aroma of the three snack items studied is not influenced by the proportions of wheat and langka seed flour. Doughnut made from pure wheat flour and 50%-50% mixture and palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour gave the best quality in terms of flavor. Polvoron's flavor in not affected by langka need flour. Doughnut made from pure wheat flour. from 75%-25% and 50%-50% wheat and langka seed flour proportions had the best quality in terms of acceptability. Palitao made from pure glutinous rice is the most acceptable while the proportions of flour combinations did not influence the acceptability of polvoron. Polvoron made from pure wheat flour and from 50%-50% wheat and tiessa seed flour mixture exhibited the best quality in terme of color while pure wheat produced the doughnut with the best appearance. Palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour gave the best qualities in terms of color and appearance. Wheat and tiessa seed flour proportions did not influence the color and appearance of doughnuts. The smoothness, cohesiveness and tenderness of doughnut are affected by the different wheat and tiessa seed flour not proportions. Doughnuts made from 100%-0%, 75%-25%, and 50%-50% wheat and tiessa seed flour mixtures had the best qualities in terms of dryness. The smoothness of polvoron is not affected by wheat and tiessa seed flour mixtures but in terms of dryness, the 100% wheat flour produced the best. Palitao made from pure glutinous rice flour are the best in terms of smoothness. moistness, cohesiveness and tenderness. The aroma of doughnut, polvoron and palitao is not influenced by wheat (or glutinous rice flour in the case of palitao) and tiessa seed flour proportions. The same trend was observed in the flavor of doughnut. Polvoron made from 100%-0%. 50%-50%, and 25%-75% wheat and tiessa seed flour mixtures had the best quality in terms of flavor while palitao made from 100% glutinous rice flour is the best in terms of flavor. The acceptability of doughnut and polvoron is not affected by different wheat and tiessa seed flour combinations. In the case of palitao, the 100%-0% glutinous rice and tiessa need flour mixture is the most acceptable. Overall, 50%-50% wheat and langka seed flour proportions and 75%-25% wheat and tiessa seed flour are recommended for making doughnuts. A mixture 25%-75% wheat and langka seed flour or wheat and tiessa seed flour is more preferred in making polvoron. Neither langka nor tiensa seed flour is recommended as substitute for glutinous rice flour in making palitao. Considering that langka and tiessa seeds are free, the cost and return analysis revealed that doughnut, polvoron, and palitao made from the treatments with the least proportion of wheat (or glutinous rice flour for palitao) flour gave the highest net profit. | Thesis (Master of Science-Home Technology) 28 cm..

Place hold on Utilization of langka (arthocarpus integra L.) and tiessa (Lucuma nervosa) seeds flour in the preparation of snack items/

Productvity of school canteens in Nueva Vizcaya: an analysis/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Aguada, Estela Taclay.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 2001 .
xv, 81 leaves : , This study was conducted to determine the socio-demographic profile of the canteen managers in Nueva Vizcaya, identify the foodservice profile of the school canteen managers' practices in the different foodservice functions; ascertain the differences of the canteen manager's profile with their foodservice practices; the age and educational attainment and net income; the foodservice profile and net income and determine the rating of the canteen manager's foodservice practices and problems encountered. Thirty different school canteens in elementary, secondary and tertiary levels of both public and private institutions in Nueva Vizcaya were included in this study. The general result of the study indicates that majority of those managing the school canteen were degree holders specifically Home Economics and Livelihood Education (HELE) teachers for the elementary and Technology and Home Economics (THE) teachers in the secondary schools. In general, the school canteens in Nueva Vizcaya are newly operated (1-4 years) with faculty contributions as source of capital and P5,000.00 and above capital invested to start the food business. Most school canteens are centrally located and near the administrative building. The canteens operate from 8 to 10 hours a day with small seating capacity. Majority of the respondents buy their food supply in the public market, according to food standard measurement, compared prices and particular with brand names and reading nutrition labels. All of the managers buy foods in their fresh form. Food preference of customers and nutritional requirements are considered when planning a menu to be sold in the canteen. Majority of the managers inspect the condition of delivered goods, always keep storage facilities clean, practice food costing and vary the food cooked everyday. They are also aware of proper waste disposal and proper drainage system. A strong association indicates a highly significant difference exists between the type of market patronized, the different considerations in food buying and menu planned with the educational attainment of the canteen managers. Both the age and educational attainment of the canteen managers showed a significant difference between the two variables. The length of operation of the school canteen showed significant relationship with net income. As the amount of capital increases, the net income also increases which means that the amount of capital invested have significant difference with the net income, just as the bigger the school population, the more customers or clienteles, the bigger is the earning. Overall analysis showed that receiving and foodservice functions that the canteen managers practiced was rated to be "good" and "very good" respectively, while food buying practices, menu planning, storage practices and sanitation practices were rated only as "fair" based on the arbitrary scale made. The most pressing problems encountered by school canteen managers ranked in their order were: malpractices in purchasing goods, menu planning practices, receiving practices, and cost control practices. | Thesis (Master of Science-Home Technology) 28 cm..

Place hold on Productvity of school canteens in Nueva Vizcaya: an analysis/

Organoleptic traits of indigenous rice-legume based snack time fortified with squash and carrot/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Barangay, Teresita Bacani.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 2002 .
xv, 83 leaves : , This study was conducted to determine the organoleptic trait of foods developed from indigenous rice-legume based snack items (Maja Blanca and Cupcake) fortified with carrot and squash in terms of color/appearance, texture and taste, determine the degree of acceptability and cost and return involved in the production. The effect of the various food combinations for rice-legume (mongo) based flour fortified with squash, carrots and the combination of squash and carrot (squarrot) prepared as food for children were evaluated. These included no replacement or 100% 0% rice-legume based flour (T1) 50% rice-legume flour fortified with 50% carrot (T2), 50% rice legume flour fortified with 50% squash, (T3) and 50% rice-legume fortified with 25% squash and 25% carrot (T4). A panel of twenty (20) evaluators, one set for parents (either a mother or a father) and one set for children evaluated the products based on the organoleptic traits of maja blanca and cupcakes. The children evaluated the acceptability of the finished products using the seven levels Facial Hedonic Scale Rating. The Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used to analyze the experiment. The organoleptic trait evaluation of parents on the color and appearance of maja blanca was adjudged to be within the range of moderately desirable to desirable (7.26 to 7.60). The texture of maja blanca from the experimental treatments were significantly more desirable than the control. The analysis of variance on the flavor and taste revealed that the combination of squash and in a rice-legume based flour maja blanca had resulted to a more desirable product than the other treatments. As to the general acceptability of the finished products of maja blanca, all were "like very much" by the panelists. In the case of cupcake, no significant difference was observed on the desirability of color and appearance. The analysis of variance reveal a no significant difference in texture of the cupcakes made from the different combinations. Also the flavor and taste of the finished products was not affected with the addition of squash and carrots. The rice-legume flour fortified with 25% each of squash and carrots had the most desirable products among the treatments. The acceptability ratings of the cupcakes made from the different treatments were statistically the same. The sensory evaluation of children on the acceptability of cupcake was not significantly affected by the addition of squash and carrots as fortifiers and enrichers. Although a slight acceptability of the cupcake with carrots was detected among the treatments, cupcakes with the combination of squash and carrots had the highest rating and describe as "like very much" by the children food panelist. | Thesis (Master of Science-Home Technology) 28 cm..

Place hold on Organoleptic traits of indigenous rice-legume based snack time fortified with squash and carrot/

The reading proficiency performance of grade IV pupils in three selected elementary schools of decs, Bagabag district/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Almonte, Raquel Ablang.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology, 1977 .
xvi, 121 leaves : , The main thrust of this study was focused in the assessment of the factors affecting the reading proficiency levels of selected Grade IV pupils in DECS, Bagabag District and their implications to classroom instruction. It was first and foremost conducted, in order to set baseline data regarding the probable use of CSC for broiler feed. Specifically, this study was carried out to attain the following objectives: (a) to determine the nutrient composition of the stomach contents from slaughtered cattle; (b) to determine the digestibility of the dehydrated stomach contents by chickens; (c) to evaluate the feeding value of CSC in terms of the birds gain in body weight, feed consumption, and feed conversion ratio: (d) to evaluate the economies of using CSC an partial substitute to yellow corn; (e) to determine the slaughter yield of broilers in terms of dressed weight with and without giblets: and (f) to determine the organoleptic characteristics of the roasted meat of the broilers in terms of color and appearance, tenderness, flavor and taste, Juiciness, and general acceptability. The study wan subdivided into four experiments namely. digestibility study, feeding trials. slaughter yield determination, and organoleptic experiment. A combination of statistical tools was used in the study. This includes the use of the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and 4 replications (Experiments 2 and 4), two-factor Factorial Experiment arranged in CRI) (Experiment 3). and regression and correlation analysis to establish the relationship between slaughter yield and weights of head and neck, and shank and feet (Experiment 3). In Experiments 2 and 4. the treatments considered were the different levels CSC in the diets of the birds. In Experiment 3, on the other hand, Factor A involves the sex of the animals while Factor B refers to the different levels of CSC in the experimental diets. The varying percentages of yellow corn partially substituted by CSC evaluated were 0% (T1), 2% (T2), 4% (T3), 6% (T4), and 8% (T5). The proximate analysis revealed that CSC contains exceptionally high percentage of crude fiber and low gross energy value which translates to a similarly low metabolizable energy value and high amount of nitrogen-free extracts which makes the wastes a good source of soluble carbohydrates for broilers. crude protein of CSC nearly approached that of corn. The total digestible nutrient (TDN) of CSC, on the other hand, compares well with other roughages but fairly concentrates used in animal feeding. Results of the feeding experiment revealed that the Incremental weekly gain in weight of the birds in all the treatment during the rearing period was more or less uniform. The birds fed with 8% CSC substituted diet consistently surpassed all the other birds in terms of the absolute value of the weekly gain in weight. Furthermore, in terms of the average total gain in body weight, the same treatment (T5) significantly outweighed all the rest of the treatments while T2. T3. and T4 comparatively performed with the control treatment. All the birds in the various treatments consumed statistically the same amount of feeds weekly. This was also the cane considering the total average feed consumption. The feed conversion ratio was statistically the same for the control treatment, the birds given diets with 4% CSC substitution (T3). 6% CSC substitution (T4) and 8% CSC substitution (T5). The birds in these treatments needed significantly lens amount of feed to produce a kilogram of meat as compared to the birds fed with diets having only 2% of the yellow corn substituted with CSC. In terms of the profit over feed const, the birds given diet with 8% CSC substitution outperformed all the other treatments cert T. Statistically comparable profits over feed cost. however, wore derived from birds in T4. T3. and T1. The cost of feed per unit gain in body weight of the experimental birds, on the other hand, wan statistically the came for all the treatments evaluated. The slaughter yield determination showed that the sex of the animals, the different levels of CSC. and the interaction of the two factors did not significantly affect the dressing percentage. The weight of head and neck, and shank and feet was found to be linearly and directly or positively related with the live and dressed weight of the experimental birds. The contribution of the former, however, was more pronounced in the liveweight than in the carcass weight. This was individual effect (simple true for both considering the regression) OF aggregate (multiple regression) of the independent variables. The organoleptic test revealed that the meat of broilers fed with dehydrated CSC were as good in color and appearance. tenderness, flavor and taste. Juiciness. and acceptability those of the control broilers. They were all rated am very tender, very desirable in appearance, moderately desirable in flavor and taste, moderately Juicy and very acceptable. | Thesis (Master of Science - Animal Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Digestibility and feeding value of abatttoir waste (cattle stomach contents) in broiler diets/

Utilization of concentrate feeds with different bypass protein values as feed supplement for goats in combined grazing and confinement/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Banhan, Marcelo T..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 2002 .
xii, 51 leaves : , This study was conducted to evaluate the growth performance of goats fed with concentrate feeds with different bypass protein values raised under combined grazing and confinement. Twelve 10-month old female upgraded goats were used in the study. The animals were randomly assigned to four feeding treatments, each of which was replicated three times. The treatments evaluated were: T1 - pure soilage based ration (control), T2 - soilage based ration supplemented with concentrate feed of low bypass protein value (soybean). T3 - soilage based ration supplemented with concentrate feed of medium bypass protein value (corn), and T4 - soilage based ration supplemented with concentrate feed of high bypass protein value (fish meal). The analysis of covariance technique for Completely Randomized Design was used using the initial weight of the animals as covariate. The Duncan's Multiple Range Test was used in comparing means. Results of the study revealed that supplementing the soilage ration of goats of concentrate feeds with different bypass protein values significantly influenced the performance of the animals in terms of final weight, final gain in weight, daily gain in weight, weekly growth rate, feed conversion efficiency, amount of soilage at 20% DM content consumed, amount of soilage and bypass protein consumed, amount of bypass protein consumed, and income over feed costs. Results further revealed that all treatments significantly differed from each other in terms of final weight, final gain in weight, daily gain in weight, weekly growth rate, feed conversion efficiency, and income over feed costs with T4 as the most superior, followed by T3 and T2. The most inferior among the treatments was T1. Results also showed that the amount of bypass protein consumed in the three treatments with feed concentrates (T2. T3. and T4) did not significantly vary with each other. | Thesis (Master of Science - Animal Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Utilization of concentrate feeds with different bypass protein values as feed supplement for goats in combined grazing and confinement/

Performance of broilers fed with enzyme-supplemented diets/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Torres, Liberty G..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 1999 .
xix, 87 leaves : , A total of 180 straight-run day-old broiler chicks (Minerva Strain) were used to evaluate the performance of broilers fed with enzyme-supplemented diets. This was aimed to compare the efficacy of four enzyme preparations on broiler performance and carcass yield; and, to evaluate the economy of four enzyme preparations in broiler diets. Six treatments consisting of the following: 1) T1 - positive control, conventional broiler diet; 2) T2 - fibrous diet with Finzyme®; 3) T3 - fibrous diet with Natugrain®; 4) T4 - fibrous diet with Polyzyme Mg®; T5 - fibrous diet with Optizyme P5®; and, T6 - fibrous diet without enzyme, were randomly assigned following a Randomized Complete Block Design. Each treatment was replicated thrice, with each replicate having ten (10) birds. Supplementation of the basal diet with commercial enzyme preparations gave comparable results with that of the control based on the average weekly gain in body weight, total gain in weight, feed consumption, dressing percentage with or without giblets, and weight of abdominal fat, liver and pancreas. Significant findings were seen in the feed conversion ratio and cost of feed per kilogram gain in body weight. Feed conversion ratios were significantly better in broiler diets supplemented with enzymes and in the positive control while the negative control required the higher amount of feeds to convert kilogram of meat. In terms of the average cost of feed per kilogram gain in weight, fibrous diets with enzyme supplementation were cheaper compared with the negative control while only T4 cost a little more than the positive control by P0.06. For the income over feed cost, T2 and T5 gave the highest income followed closely by the positive control (T1}) then by T3 and T4 Again the negative control gave the lowest income. | Thesis (Master of Science - Animal Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Performance of broilers fed with enzyme-supplemented diets/

Status of native chicken and muscovy duck production systems in Nueva Vizcaya: a basis for developing a production module/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Gapuz, Ronald M..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 2003 .
xvii, 123 leaves : , A study was conducted to assess native chicken and muscovy duck production systems in Nueva Vizcaya. Parameters like demographic characteristics of the respondents, production environment, resources and management, and production-related problems of native chicken and muscovy duck raisers were collected. Descriptive statistics like measures of dispersion, central tendency, frequency counts, percentages and ranks were used to treat the statistical data. Results of the study showed that most native chicken and muscovy duck raisers in Nueva Vizcaya are within the 36-45 years age bracket. Most are married women with a maximum number of four children. Rice farming is the major occupation. Educational attainment is low and most respondents have attended/finished only elementary and secondary levels. Attendance to trainings and seminars as well as membership in farmers' organizations and cooperatives are limited. Despite the proximity and/or accessibility to research stations and extension and veterinary services, most farms are still traditionally managed with little attention being given to feeding and health care. Resources like feeds, labor and housing materials are mostly taken on-farm. Production and management practices are still traditional, but there are evidences of gradual shifting to scientific practices and technologies especially on flock improvement as 356 out of 390 farmers practicing upgrading show. Productivity of the native chicken and Muscovy duck is moderately low due to the traditional management system employed. On the average, most respondents own less than a hectare of landholding. Household sizes were small with an average of four children. Annual household income ranged from 41-50 thousand pesos. Crop production is the primary source of income. Native chicken and muscovy duck are mainly raised for food and secondarily as source of additional income. Marketing is done on cash on retail or wholesale basis. Price of marketable live native chicken is higher compared to that of live commercial broiler. Management-related problems and limited resource-capability of the farmers constrain the expansion of native chicken and muscovy duck production. Formulation of intervention options toward the solution of these problems should be both a government and private sector endeavor. Trainings and seminars should be conducted to enhance the farmers' technical knowledge and skills on native chicken and muscovy duck production. Technology dissemination, technical assistance and veterinary services should be provided to raisers. Farmers who want to increase their flocks and want to engage in native chicken and muscovy duck production should be availed of moderate interest-loans with no collateral. Sufficient market information support system should be extended to raisers to promote efficient marketing of native chicken, muscovy duck and their products. Family labor should be used to minimize labor expenses. Viability and applicability of indigenous technologies should be verified and tested for the raisers' benefit. Data were obtained from two phases of the study, namely, pre-experimental and experimental phases. Data obtained during the pre-experimental phase were on initial weight, morbidity rate and weight of piglets at the onset of diarrhea. No significant differences were noted at the first two parameters. Significant variations, however, were observed on weight of piglets at the onset of diarrhea. Heavier piglets belonged to smaller litters with an average size of 8.5, while lighter ones came from larger litters with an average size of 10.67. No significant variations were noted on the different data collected during the experimental phase of the study. Duration of treatment, mortality rate, recovery rate, weaning weight of piglets affected with diarrhea, and weaning weight of piglets without diarrhea were statistically similar in all treatment groups of piglets Results of the experiment revealed that any of the four modes of treatment for neonatal piglet diarrhea were effective against the disease. However, if cost of treatment was considered, the oral amoxicillin without electrolyte (A₁,B₁) was the cheapest. In terms of ease of administration, the intramuscular route of drug administration was easier than the oral route. | Thesis (Master of Science - Animal Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Oral and injectable (amoxicillin) antibiotic treatment of neonatal piglet diarrhea with and without electrolytes/

Mathematics achievement of grade 4 pupils using the first language component - bridging program in Bascaran elementary school first grading period, sy 1994 - 1995/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Evangelista, Fabian A..
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology,, 1995 .
xvi, 148 leaves : , The study determining whether experimental in nature simed the use of st the First Language Component-Bridging Program (FLC-BP) of teaching mathematics will significantly improve the achievement of Grade 4 pupils on computation and problem solving of whole numbers only. For the purpose of finding the answers to the questions. rained in the study, the following null hypotheses were tested: 1. There is no significant difference in the means of the summative tests of the Experimental and Control Groups. 2. There is no significant difference in the mean scores in the pretest and posttest of the Experimental Control Groups on: and 2.1 computation; and 2.2 problem solving of whole numbers 3. There is no significant difference in the posttest performances of the Experimental and Control Groups. 4. There is no significant difference between the final average ratings in Mathematics in Grade 3 and posttest ratings of the Experimental and Control Groups. The Nonequivalent Control Group Design of the Quasi-Experimantal Research Design was used in this study whereby subjects of the 2 intact groups were not randomized and assigned an Experimental and Control Groups by lottery. Both groups were subjected to the pretest and posttest but only the Experimental Group received the treatment (FLC-BP) while the Control Group received the traditional/regular medium of teaching Mathematics (English). The research tools used to gather data for the study were the Pupil's Progress Report Card (DECS Form 138) and a teacher-nade criterion test. To statistically analyze the dats, the t-tests on gain scores and independent samples and the Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) were used. The findings of the study are the following: 1. The addition and subtraction summative test mean of the Experimental Group was higher than the mean of the Control Group but the difference of the means of both groups was statistically insignificant. The multiplication and division summative test menn scores of the Experimental Group were statistically higher than the Control Group. As a whole, however, the analysis of the mean scores of the Experimental and Control Groups in the 3 summative test showed significant difference. 2. There was significant difference in the computation skills of the Experimental and Control Groups as shown by the gain scores from the present to the posttest. However, in the problem solving skills, there was significant difference in Experimental Group but not in the Control Group. 3. There was a significant difference in the posttest performances of the Experimental and Control Groups with the pretest as covariate. 4. The final average ratings in Mathematics in Grade 3 and Posttest ratings of the Experimental and Control Groups did not reveal any significant difference. In the light of the findings, it is with tentativeness to conclude the following: 1. Grade 4 pupils perform significantly better in the computation and problem solving of whole numbers when exposed to the FLC-BP methodology of teaching than in the regular/traditional English medium of classroom instruction. The methodology significantly affects the mathematics achievement of Grade 4 pupils in the computation, especially in multiplication and division and problem solving of whole numbers. 2. There is a significant improvement in the initial performances of Grade 4 pupils on computation and problem solving of whole numbers when exposed to FLC-BP. taught in the regular/traditional English medium When of classroom instruction, the significant difference from the pretest to the posttest performances in only but not in problem solving. in computation Hence, the FLC-BP enhances significantly the acquisition of skills in computation and problem solving of whole numbers over the regular classroom English medium of instruction to Grade 4 pupils. 3. The final average Mathematics ratings in Grade 3 has significant effect and influence on the Mathematics no achievement of Grade 4 pupils on the computation and problem solving of whole numbers. Based on the information generated by the study. following recommendations are made: the 1. Since the FLC-BP methodology of teaching Mathematics in computation and problem solving of whole numbers enhances Mathematics achievement of the group of Grade 4 pupils involved in this study, a replication of this investigation employing randomization of subjects is highly recommended. 2. To validate the applicability and find out whether the significant effect of the FLC-BP as a methodology of teaching remains constant and consistent, it is recommended that randomization of samples in the replication of the present research be conducted on other content/fields of Mathematica and other learning areas in any of the Grade level. 3. The subjects of the study were the two Grade I classes of Villaverde Central School, Villaverde District, Division of Nueva Vizcaya enrolled during the school year 1999-2000. The pupils were randomly grouped into two. The first was considered as the control where the traditional method of teaching using English wan used. The other group was considered the experimental group where the FLC-BF was used. The t-test was used to compare the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental and the control groups. The study aimed further to determine if a relationship existed between the independent variables particularly the demographic profile like age, gender, civil status, educational attainment, sources of income, trainings attended and number of years in raising goat, and the management practices of farmers. The data gathering instrument was an interview schedule. The respondents were 130 goat farmers representing the pilot municipalities of the NVSIT-BIDANI Program. Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between respondents' demographic profile and the management practices they employ in goat raising. Results of the study showed that majority of the goat farmers were males with ages ranging from 31-50, married, and high school graduates. Source of income was derived mainly from crop farming. Most of the goat farmers have been raising goats for the past 3 years. Majority of the goat farmers fed their animals through tethering. By-product feeds such as sweet potato vine, rice straw, corn stover, corn cob and legume hay are commonly used as additional feed materials for the goats. Most of the goat farmers did not use concentrates. The use of salt as mineral supplement was found to be popularly used. Water for the goats was supplied through force pumps and streams. Very few of the goat farmers used galvanized sheets as roofing for goat houses Farmers never housed their goats under trees. Majority of the farmers provided housing for their goats with the use of wood slabs, bamboos, nipa and cogon. All goat farmers in the pilot municipalities bred their goats through natural breeding. Majority bred their goats at the age of more than 1 year. Almost all of the goat farmers were able to detect that their goats are in-heat. Majority of the goat farmers practiced selection in goats, based mainly on body conformation and physical appearance. Classes of goats usually fattened were weanlings. Culling was not much practiced. Nearly all of the goat farmers kept records of the breeding and kidding dates of the animals. Kids were allowed to suck colostrums just after birth. Common diseases encountered were scouring and pneumonia. Basic disease preventive measures employed by the goat farmers were: vaccination, deworming, vitamin supplementation, spraying and the least, quarantine. The first reaction of the farmers towards diseases is to consult anyone; while very few of the farmers resorted to butchering the animal in cases of disease manifestations. The main source of information as to marketing of goats were friends and neighbors. Majority of the farmers sold their animals to their neighbors and co-raisers, and almost all of the raisers sold their goats live based on age, sex, breed and weight. Most of the farmers believed in the need of technical assistance in goat farming. Majority of technical services rendered came from government livestock technicians and agricultural schools. Majority of the respondents claimed that they need technical assistance specially in the areas of disease prevention, feeds and feeding, and breeding. Significant relationships existed between demographic characteristics and the management practices particularly feeding systems, housing systems, selection and breeding systems, health care systems, and husbandry management systems. Problem areas inimical to goat production were centered on occurrence of diseases, lack of superior breeding stocks, and lack of technical know-how. Seemingly, farmers also emphasized the need of government support to small ruminant raisers; particularly, programs focused on improving the goat industry in the backyard level. Adaptive management systems particularly feeding, housing, selection, breeding, health care, and husbandry systems significantly depended on the demographic profile of the farmer respondents. Gaps that existed in the general management practices where the system and managerial capability of goat farmers in the pilot municipalities should be identified, and strategies for the development of goat production in the pilot municipalities particularly for the backyard level should be intensified. | Thesis (Master of Science - Animal Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Managemnet practice of goats farmers in the pilot municipalities of NVSIT-bidani program/

Efficacy of Dexamethasone-oxytocin in inducing parturitation in swine/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Pagbilao, Dorothy Pagadut.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 1998 .
xi, 28 leaves : , The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of dexamethasone-oxytocin in inducing farrowing in swine. Specifically, it aimed to evaluate the effects of these drugs on birth weight of piglets, farrowing interval, time of placental expulsion, duration of farrowing, interval between weaning and postweaning estrus, ratio of stillbirth, and health status of the dam and piglets. Twelve sows were randomly assigned to two treatments. Six sows were treated with dexamethasone-oxytocin combination and six were untreated. The t-test was used to detect any differences between treatment means in terms of the different parameters evaluated. Results reveal that dexamethasone-oxytocin administration significantly shortened the time and duration of farrowing and the interval between piglets farrowed. On the other hand, the treatments did not significantly affect the birth weight of piglets, time of placental expulsion, interval between weaning and post weaning estrus, ratio of stillbirth and health status of both the dam and the piglets. Results suggest that the administration of dexamethasone-oxytocin combination is effective in inducing parturition in swine. Its effect on shortening the duration and interval of farrowing could be tapped by raisers as an effective management measure in terms of timely inducing parturition to lessen stress on the part of the dam and piglets. | Thesis (Master of Science - Animal Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Efficacy of Dexamethasone-oxytocin in inducing parturitation in swine/

Writing difficulties in english among selected first year college students at the Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Jacinto, Marigem G..
Babyombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology, 1997 .
xiii, 123 leaves : , The study explored the writing difficulties in the learning of writing among selected first year English classes of the Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology for School Year 1994-1995. The study made use of the descriptive-normative survey. Thirty (30) students randomly selected (15 BSEED, with a mean age of 20.3 and 15 BSHT students, with a mean age of 18.2), with an average IQ of "Below Average" for BSEEd and "Very Low" for the BSHT (based on the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) Form J composed the study group. The students were given writing lessons using Dictocomp, Diotogloss, Guided Writing, and Free Writing. Writing Difficulties met by the students were tested along the following dimensions: 1. Organization 2. Content3. Structure Similarly, differences in the writing difficulties of the subjects along a) age; b) course enrolled in; c) NCEE scores; d) high school graduated from; e) socio-economic status; f) educational attainment of parents; g) reading materials at home; h) I.Q level based on the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT); (Form J) were explored. Furthermore, the implications of these writing difficulties for improving teaching and Communication Arts in English were studied. learning of To test whether the difficulties differed significantly along Organization, Content and Structure (mechanics), data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The t-test for independent samples was used to test differences along such variables as age course enrolled in, NCEE score, high school graduated from, socio-economic status, educational attainment of parents, reading materials at home, and IQ level based on the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) Form J. The findings of the study are summarized as follows: 1. Under Organization, the mean achievement of the students in Free Writing and Dictocomp was significantly different from the student's mean achievement in Guided Writing. 2. Under Content, the mean achievement of the students in Dictocomp (75.3) was significantly different from their mean achievement in Guided Writing (72.9). 3. Under Structure/mechanics the mean achievements of the students across the four levels of writing (Free Writing, Guided Writing, Dictocomp and Diotogloss, were significantly different 4. Along the variables: age; course enrolled in: NCEE score; high school graduated from; socio-economic status; educational attainment of parents; reading materials at home and IQ level based on the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) Form J, the mean achievements of the students did not significantly differ. Based on the findings of this study, the following conclusions are arrived at: Under Organization, the study group achieved better in Free Writing than in Guided Writing. They also achieve better in Dictocomp than in Guided Writing. Under Content, the students achieved better in Dictocomp than in Guided Writing. Under Structure, the students do not differ in their writing difficulties across the four levels writing. Age does not introduce any variation in the writing difficulties of the students. The BSHT students. experience more writing difficulties than the BSEEd group under Dictocomp and Dictogloss. The students with low NCEE percentile ratings experience more writing difficulties than the students with high NCEE ratings under Dictocomp and Dictogloss. The writing difficulties of the students categorized into "Public" and "Private" based on high school graduated from do not differ under Guided Writing, Dictocomp, and Dictogloss, but differ under Free Writing. Students who come from low-income families do not necessarily achieve less than those students who come from high income families. Interestingly, students with parents of "low" educational attainment as well as students with parents of "high" educational attainment have the same writing achievement. Books and Periodicals do not create any difference in the writing difficulties of students. Such findings warrants a need to go deeper into this problem through an in depth study. In the light of the findings in this study, the following recommendations are arrived at: A review of the course syllabus in the language teaching testing program of the Institute should be undertaken: A thorough improvement the language testing program centering on the basic rules on grammar and rhetoric is deemed necessary: A replication of this study using a larger sample and involving public and private institutions of higher learning may generate needed information that may redound to better teaching of English classes at the Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology (NVSIT) and elsewhere. | Thesis (Master of Education - Language, Reading and Numeracy) 28 cm..

Place hold on Writing difficulties in english among selected first year college students at the Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology/

Lysine supplementation of azolla-based broiler diets/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Silapan, Ruby Afan.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 1995 .
xii, 77 leaves : , A feeding experiment was conducted to develop an azolla-based lysine supplemented broiler diet under constant levels of methionine. It tried to evaluate the performance of broilers (Minerva Strain) fed with the experimental diets in terms of final gain in weight, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, growth rate, dressing percentage, yield and economic returns. carcass One hundred and fifty birds were randomly distributed to five dietary treatments with 3 replications consisting of three levels of lysine: 3. 3.5, and 4 percent of the total crude protein in the diet with two control treatments. The positive control consisted of soybean 011 meal as the major plant protein source, and the negative control azolla-based diet both without lysine supplementation. was The diets were fed to day-old birds until 45 days. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the significance among the different treatments, whereas. Least Significance Difference (LSD) and Duncan's Multiple Range. Test (DMRT) were used to compare the significance of the different treatments. Results showed significant differences in final gain in weight of the broilers fed the treated diets. Heaviest final gain in weight was obtained from birds fed with azolla-based diet with 4 percent lysine supplementation while lowest gain in weight was recorded among birds fed azolla-based However, of diets without lysine supplementation. insignificant differences were noted in term feed consumption among the different group of treatments. Feed conversion ratio and growth rate was highest for birds fed azolla-based diets with as 4 percent lysine compared to the other treated birds. Likewise, dressing percentage and carcass yields were higher among birds fed with azolla-based diets supplemented with 4 percent level of lysine than the other treatments. Based on the economic efficiency of the diets at current market price of feed ingredients, the study proved that higher profits were obtained when broilers were fed with azolla-based diets with 4% level of lysine supplementation at constant level of methionine. | Thesis (Master of Science - Animal Science) 28 cm..

Place hold on Lysine supplementation of azolla-based broiler diets/

Accuracy of the liveweight estimation formula . A total of 1197 heads of hogs comprising of 101 sows, 480 finishers, 486 growers, and 130 weanlings were used in the study. The heartgirth and body length measurements of the animals were taken then weighed individually. The measurements were used in estimating the liveweight of the animals using the original formula and the modified formula proposed in the study. The correlation and accuracy of the estimated weights as compared to the actual weights was determined through simple linear regression. Results showed that the original liveweight estimation formula underestimated the actual weights of the animals. The degree of underestimation was computed to be 0.3822% for sows, 3.3402% for finishers, 4.4656% for growers, and 16.0916% for weanlings. A constant c was introduced in the modified liveweight estimation formula using the percentage of underestimation. The constants c were computed as 1.00384 for sows, 1.03456 for finishers, 1.04774 for growers and 1.19178 for weanlings. The constants were multiplied to the original weight estimation formula to arrive at the modified weight estimation formula for various classes of swine. With the use of the modified formula, a slight weight overestimation could be obtained favoring the seller. The respondents of the study were the randomly selected 150 Farmer Field School graduates. They provided the information required in the assessment on the implementation of the FFS. On the other hand, 33 Training of Trainors graduates of Integrated Pest Management program were considered in obtaining data on the different activities required in the implementation of the FFS as well as the problems encountered in the implementation and the solutions to these problems. The instrument used for gathering data was in the form of an interview questionnaire. A combination of statistical tools were used in this study. They were descriptive statistics such frequency and percentage distribution, range, means, standard deviations, and ranking. Results revealed that more than one-half of the respondents were 31-50 years old. More than 80% were males and more than 90% were married. About one-half had high school education. More than half had been farming for the last 20 years or less where more than three-fourths were cultivating rice in up to 2.0 ha farma. About 90% of the farmer-respondents planted crops other than rice in 1.0 ha or less area. About three-fourths were landowners and more than half earned annual income in the amount of greater than P20.000. Most of the respondents owned house and lot. The respondents perceived the FFS organization as very effective and the curriculum, strategies, and facilities as effective. Overall, they assessed the programs as effective. Only the FFS facilities were significantly affected by the age of the respondents. The FFS organization. curriculum, and strategies as well as the overall effectiveness of the program were affected by age. Gender significantly affected the effectiveness of the FFS organization as perceived by the facilities as well as the overall effectiveness of the program. The farmers' perceptions on the overall effectiveness of the program as well as the effectiveness of its organization, curriculum, strategies, and facilities did not significantly differ when respondents were grouped according to marital status. The educational attainment of the respondents did not significantly influence their perceptions on the effectiveness of the program in all areas. The farmers' perceptions on the overall effectiveness of the program as well as the effectiveness of its organization, curriculum, strategies, and facilities did not significantly differ when respondents were grouped according to number of years in farming. Rice farm area did not significantly affect the farmers' perceptions of the overall effectiveness of the Farmer Field School (FFS) and its four components, namely organization, curriculum, strategies, and facilities. The assessment of the respondents. on the overall effectiveness of the FFS and its organization, curriculum, and strategies components did not significantly differ when the respondents were grouped according to area planted to other crops. Their perceptions on the effectiveness of the facilities components, however significantly differed. Land tenure did not significantly influence the respondents' perceptions on the overall effectiveness of the FFS as well as the effectiveness of the program's four components. The perceptions of the farmer-respondents on the overall effectiveness of the FFS and its four components were found to differ significantly when grouped according to their annual income. House and lot ownership was found not to introduce significant variations in the farmer-respondents" assessment on the effectiveness of the FFS curriculum. This, however. significantly affect their perceptions effectiveness as regards the overall implementation of FFS, and its three components, namely organization, strategies, and facilities. The overall effectiveness of the FFS in attaining its objectives assessed by the were farmer-respondents as effective. The skills that the program sought its participants were perceived to impart to its participants were perceived by most of the farmer-respondents as effective to very effective. The assessment farmer-respondents on of the effectiveness of the FFS in attaining its objectives were found not to differ significantly when farmer-respondents were grouped according to age, gender, marital status, educational attainment, number of years in farming, rice farm area, farm tenure. The planted to other area farmer-respondents, crops, however. and land differed significantly in their perceptions when grouped according to annual income and house and lot ownership. Coordination with local officials and selection of sites and cooperators were the most common activities performed by the trainors /facilitators in implementing the FFS. conducted farmers trainings and information drive Some to disseminate the benefits that can be obtained from the FFS. A few performed spot mapping to identify needs in the barangay. Poor attendance of FFS participants. slow processing of supplies and materials, negative attitude of farmers to new innovations, lack of facilities, and mobility problems due to lack of transportation were encountered by the trainors / facilitators while implementing the FFS. To solve the problem regarding poor negative attitude towards new innovations. recommended that a constant follow-up and program participants must be carried out and attendance and the trainors dialogue with the conduct of field and home visits before FFS sessions must be undertaken to remind participants of their roles in the FFS. trainor-respondents also recommended the provision. The of motorcycles to program participants to address the problem on mobility. Provision of additional funds for FFS operations was recommended to settle the problems on slow processing of supplies and materials. Some even recommended the shortening of the program's duration. On the basis of the above significant findings. following recommendations are forwarded: There is an obvious contradiction between the respondent’s assessment on the effectiveness of the program and the identified problem of lack of attendance during FFS meetings. Future assessment studies of the FFS or similar development projects should not be focused only on what the recipients are saying but emphasis must be given on the physical impact of the project such as increase in income. better nutrition, and similar indicators. Along this line. a comparison of the clientele's status before and after the FFS implementation must be carried out to assess the impact of the program in tangible terms. Since the FFS scope is regional, an assessment on regional scale must be carried out to identify strengths and weaknesses between and among participating provinces or municipalities which can serve as basis for improving the program. | Thesis (Master of Science - Agricultural Education) 28 cm..

Place hold on Farmer field school as strategy in kasakalikasan program of Nueva Vizcaya : an assessment/

Active and non-active upland farmers' participation in rainfed resources development projects in Nueva Vizcaya/
<dc:identifier>ISBN:</dc:identifier>

By Ballesteros, Fidel Garcia.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology 1999 .
xvii, 114 leaves : , This study was conducted to assess the degree of upland farmers participation in upland development projects in selected barangays of Santa Fe, Solano, and Bagabag. Afalla.
Bayombong: Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology, 2001 .
xii, 92 leaves : , This descriptive study was conducted to determine the factors that affect the language preferences and the attitudes toward music among teacher education students of Nueva Vizcaya State Institute of Technology. Results of the study revealed that in the teacher education institution, the female students dominated the male students in terms of frequency. Most of the students are enrolled in the BEED program; majority came from public high schools; and the Ilocanos outnumbered the non-Ilocano students. Overall, the students showed very good grades in college music. Generally, the students seldom attend to music activities, they were categorized as "trying hard" players of musical instruments, and, self was considered as the first factor influencing musicality. Most of them have formal music lessons but they preferred only to be spectators of any musical shows/programs. The students showed a satisfactory performance on a Teacher-made Music Achievement Test; the use of multilingualism in the teaching of music is more preferred; and, most of the students revealed positive attitudes toward music. The language preferences in the learning of music has nothing to do with gender, type of high school graduated from and grades in music. However, language preferences are relatively dependent to course and ethnicity. The musical preferences and the performance of the students on a Teacher-made Music Achievement Test had no significant differences to the language preferences. The attitudes toward music had no significant differences in terms of course, type of high school graduated from, ethnicity and grade in music. However, gender was found to have significant difference on the attitudes toward music, which implies that female students have higher positive attitudes toward music than male students. The musical preferences and the performance on the Teacher-made Music Achievement Test did not affect the attitudes toward music. Based on the findings and conclusions drawn, the following recommendations are forwarded: 1. Teachers teaching music should consider using multilingualism when teaching concepts of music in all levels. 2. Curriculum-makers should improve music education considering the medium of instruction. Additional units for music subjects in the tertiary level especially in the BEED program should be considered to further develop and enhance the musicality of all individuals 0 3. The Institute should provide the students various musical experiences such as singing contests, instrumental playing contest, rhythmic activities, etc. for them to develop and cultivate better music appreciation. 4.
