xii, 67 leaves : illustrations ; 1999 Linda Sacro Ragual This study was undertaken to determine the relationship between the age, gender, marital status, major field of specialization, length of teaching the subject, teaching loads and number of teaching hours of the Technology and Home Economics teachers and their teaching performance, the relationship between the three extra-curricular activities and teaching performance and the degree of participation of the T.H.E. teachers in the three extra-curricular activities such as co-curricular, professional and community activities. A questionnaire was used to collect the necessary information from 32 THE. teachers of the eight La Salette schools under the La Salette School System Two hypotheses were tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and the results were as follows: The age, length of teaching, T.H.E., and the major field of specialization were found to be highly significant (r=0.93190, г=0.42621, г=0.36025) respectively, with teaching performance. Result revealed that the older teachers had better teaching performance than the new teachers. In other words, the longer the teacher has taught the subject the better performance she has and teachers teaching their major fields of specialization were better than those who did not teach their major field Gender, marital status, teaching loads and the number of teaching hours in a week were found to have no significant relationship with the teaching performance. There was a significant relationship that exist between the extra curricular activities and teaching performance of T.H.E. teachers of the La Salette School System On the basis of the findings and conclusions, it is recommended that T.HE. teachers should be given more opportunities to stay longer in teaching T.H.E subject and opportunities to be involved or to participate in different kinds of extra-curricular activities.
