In vitro study on the antimicrobial activity of garlic (allium sativum) against escherichia coli and staphyloccus aureus/ Sheryl Rose Ann G. The study compared the antibacterial effect of garlic with a commercially available antibiotic (Gentamicin) and identified the most effective concentration capable of inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The study was laid out following the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments replicated four times. The treatments were designated as follows. Treatment 1, (Gentamicin), Treatment 2 (50 percent garlic extract), Treatment 3. (75 percent garlic extract). Treatment 4 (100 percent garlic extract) Each treatment was replicated four times. Based on the result of the study, no significant differences were observed among treatment means at 12 hours of incubation in Staphylococcus aureus After 24 hours of incubation, results showed significant differences among treatments where the effect of Gentamicin (T₁) was comparable with the use of 50 percent and 75 percent treatment of garlic extract. Zones of inhibition obtained from T, (Gentamicin), T₂ (50 percent garlic extract), T3 (75 percent garlic extract), are significantly greater than that of T4 (100) percent garlic extract) The same results were obtained after 36 and 48 hours.
