Gacayan The study attempted to determine the correlates of the level of midyear achievement rate in mathematics of the Grade VI pupils of the DepEd District of Solano II Nueva Vizcaya during the school year 2005-2006. To achieve the above aims, the study used the descriptive- correlation research method using a semi-structured questionnaire as a data-gathering instrument. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The 0.05 probability level (level of significance) was the critical point of reference. The study was conducted in the Solano II District of the Department of Education (DepEd) of the province of Nueva Vizcaya. The 214 randomly selected respondents were Grade VI pupils from the public elementary schools in Solano II District. The study was conducted during the school year 2005-2006. Result of the study revealed that the respondents have a positive attitude towards the study of mathematics. However, level of achievement in mathematics of the respondents as indicated by the mean value of 80.04 and was qualitatively described average. Two profile variables were identified as correlates of the level of midyear achievement in mathematics of the Grade VI pupils in the DepEd District of Solano II. Nueva Vizcaya. These are the study habits and fields of interest of the respondents. The mathematical attitude correlates include: my mathematics class will be interestingand lots of fun when introduced with varied activities like games, puzzles, etc., which displayed positive relationship, I let somebody solve my mathematics problem, mathematics should not be included in the subject areas I learn because it is difficult: and I am willing to exchange my mathematics subject for an easier subjects in school, which displayed negative correlation coefficients. Based on the findings of the study, the following were recommended to improve the midyear achievement of mathematics in the study site. 1. To effectively improve the level of midyear achievement in mathematics of the Grade VI pupils in the District of Solano II of the DepEd Division of Nueva Vizcaya, the proper study habits and genuine interest in mathematics should be developed and cultivated by their mathematics teachers with the cooperation and help of the children's parents. 2. One way to improve the level of midyear achievement in mathematics of the Grade VI pupils in the study site is to for the teacher to develop in them a positive attitude while mitigating their pessimistic outlook in studying in mathematics by incorporating varied activities like games, puzzles to make it a lot more interesting subject. 3. To further improve the level of midyear achievement of the Grade Vi pupils in the study site is to limit the too much time spent by the respondents in watching TV, indulging in playing poker card games, and frequent absenteeism from their classes. 4. Every public elementary school in the study site should endeavor to hold a meeting with the PTCA to explain the bad effect to their children of too muchtime watching TV, indulging in poker card game, and frequent absenteeism of their children as well as to solicit their help in developing proper study habits and positive attitude on studying mathematics as one of the means of improving the level of midyear performance of the respondents in mathematics. 5. School administrators should design in-service trainings to be conducted in order that teachers could develop and improve their teaching styles in sustaining the interest of pupils to improve their achievement. 6. A replication of the study should also be conducted which include more comprehensive set of variables and wider scope of samples to acquire more reliable basis for decision-making, or using pupils in other levels of elementary mathematics.
