N1  - The study determined the performance of Grade III pupils in a multigrade setting as taught by a newly hired teacher. Specifically, the study sought to identify the performance of the experimental and control groups in terms of pretest and posttest to assess evidence of teaching effectiveness of the newly hired teacher.

This study employed the quantitative and qualitative methods. Under the quantitative method, this study used the Quasi-Experimental Design, specifically pretest-posttest two group control design. Under the qualitative method, participant observation, in depth interviews and documentation were utilized.

The study found that no significant difference was noted for English but there existed a highly significant difference between the pretest mean scores of the control and experimental groups in Math and Science and Health; a highly significant difference existed between the posttest mean score in English, Math, and Science and Health between the control and experimental groups; the performance of the experimental group in the posttest is significantly higher than those in the control group.

In conclusion, the class under newly hired teacher had better performance than those under the experienced teacher even though both were described as only poor to fair. This was attested from the data gathered on interviews and observations, that a newly hired teacher has the advantage over the experienced teacher of energy and innovative spirit which facilitate the conduct of activity-filled teaching-learning strategies given the complexities of the pedagogies used; Thesis (Master of Education - Educational Administration); Includes appendices and bibliographical references
