Sicat This study aimed to identify the non-intellective and intellective determinants of the Science and Mathematics performance of third year high school students in Solano District. To achieve the above aim, the study used the descriptive- correlation research method through a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. In describing the data gathered, the study used frequency counts, percentages, means and standard deviations. In the analyses of relationships between the variables, the study used inferential statistics most specifically the correlation procedures. The study was conducted in the secondary schools in Solano District consisting of third year high school students of the following schools Uddiawan National High School, Solano High School and Bascaran National High School. There were 108 students who served as respondents of the study. The study was conducted from December 2007 to January 2008. The result of the study indicated that third year high school students in the study sites whose father is a non-farmer have higher level of open mindedness than those whose fathers are farmers, those whose father is a farmer have higher level of open mindedness than those whose fathers are non-farmers, and those whose fathers are college graduates have higher level of intellectual honesty than respondents whose fathers have lower educational attainment. Likewise, male third year high school students who are Ilocanos and whose father is a non-farmer have significantly higher level of academic performance in the Science than other respondents of the study, and those who are Ilocanos have significantly higher level of academic performance in Mathematics as compared to those who belong to other ethnic groups. Moreover, third year high school students in Solano District who possess higher level intellective factors such as critical mindedness and suspended judgment are also those who have higher level of academic performance in Science than other students in the study place, and those who possess higher level intellective factor in terms of critical mindedness also have higher level of academic performance in Mathematics than other third year students who served as respondents of the study. Based on the above results of the study, the following recommendations are forwarded: In the development of teaching strategies geared towards the improvement of the intellective factor open mindedness of third year high school students in the study sites, more focus or attention should be provided to those whose fathers are farmers than those whose parents are non-farmers, strategies should be developed to improve the attributes of the third year high school students in the study sites in terms of suspended judgments, those whose father are non-farmers, enhancement strategies should be developed to improve the attributes of the third year high school students in the study sites in terms of intellectual honesty especially those whose fathers have lower educational attainment On their academic performance, it is essential that in developing enhancement programs or remedial classes for the improvement of the academic performance in the Science of third year high school students in Solano, it is essential that the ethnicity and occupation of the father of the students should be considered, on their academic performance in Mathematics, remedial classes and other strategies for the improvement of the academic performance should consider the peculiarities of the students who are non-Ilocanos or those who belong to other ethnic groups. To further improve the academic performance of the third year high school students in Solano District in Science, strategies should be first developed to improve their level of intellective factors such as critical mindedness and suspended judgment. Improvement of their academic performance in Mathematics should first entail the development of strategies for the enhancer ent of the critical mindedness of the stipulated students in the study sites.
