A portable waterwheel made of locally available materials using local manufacturing technology was designed, fabricated, and evaluated in term of discharge as affected by elevation head and horizontal distance from the source to minimize fuel consumption and save money for farmers. Result of the study revealed that the portable spiral water wheel pump discharge rate decreases with increased distance and elevation. When the PSWWP is operated at average water velocity of 0.7345 m/sec, and average rotational wheel speed of 50.03 rev/min at 0, 0.25m, 0.50m, 0.70m, 1.00m, 1.25m, 1.50m, 1.75m and 2.00m elevation head, the discharge rate was 298.56, 245.41, 214.12, 186.36, 165.59.152.28.145.72, 138.82 and 134.00L/h respectively, on the other hand, discharge rate at 5.00, 10.00, 20.00m and 30.00m horizontal distance from PSWWP was 244.71. 187.12, 171.78 and 143.45L/h respectively. The portable water wheel entailed an investment cost of 11,492.00 pesos and it is projected to recover in 1.91 years. The simple cost analysis indicates an annual cost of PhP 5483.35, a net income of PhP 6014.85 and a return on investment of 52.31% highlighting the economic viability of the water wheel pump for irrigation.
