<subfield code="a">A total of 36 six to eight weeks old mice were used in a study to evaluate the wound healing property of chayote fruit ethanol extract (CFFE). The study was laid out in a completely randomized design with the following treatments: T_{r} - Solcoseryl®, T2 - Distilled water. T3-50% CFEE, and T4 - 100% CFEE. Each treatment was divided into 3 replicates with 3 samples per replicate. The study was conducted at NVSU Animal Health Clinic-Veterinary Teaching Hospital (NAHEC-VTH) at Nueva Vizcaya State University Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. Circular excision wounds with a diameter of 0.8 cm were induced in the experimental animals. The wound contraction rates and epithelialization periods were evaluated grossly while histological evaluation of the wounds was performed on prepared skin tissues using the semi-quantitative approach. Results showed that the epithelialization and wound contraction rates of T1 were comparable with T3 and T4. Histologically, the individual parameters show no significant differences except in day 5, where T4 was significantly different from T1, T2 and T3 in terms of fibroblast proliferation, but the overall grading of T1, T2and T4 were comparable in result. It is therefore concluded that 50% and 100% CFEE have healing properties in excision models using mice. It is recommended that further studies be performed to explore the wound healing property of CFEE and its potential. The following are recommended: (1) different concentrations should be used; (2) use the same preparation in other animals; and (3) use different preparation in other animals.</subfield>
