TI - Automation control system for greenhouse environment: application for hydroponics crop production PY - 2023/// CY - Bayombong PB - Nueva Vizcaya State University N1 - The development of innovative ways for agricultural systems and works were introduced to evaluate the industry such as hydroponics farming. However, for appropriate plant development, disease prevention, and quicker growth, a hydroponic system requires a regulated atmosphere. Temperature, and humidity are to be considered to attain the highest efficiency in plant production. Thus, this study covers the design, construction, and testing of an economical automated greenhouse for growing Bok Choy, which aims to create a system that is both cost-effective and requires minimal human involvement after the germinated plant is placed into the system. Results showed that compared to conventional farming, adopting hydroponic A-frame plant beds increased the maximum production per unit area to approximately 40%. The automated control system validation confirmed through testing and with the provision of objective evidence have succeeded. The crop's comfort level for temperature (25-32 °C) and relative humidity (60-80%) carried out the proper activation in accordance with sensors' reading. The controller provided sufficient responsiveness and it carried out the suggested programming for the monitoring and activation of ventilation fans and mist sprinklers. The place of cultivation was found to be important for leaf size, with the values from protected production (1.2 kg/m²) being higher than those from open field production (0.8 kg/m²). The results showed that the use of covered farming had a significant impact leading to the production of healthy plants. The benefits of a regulated environment, which have increased photosynthetic activity and nutrient uptake, can be linked to the rise in vegetative growth. The cost of production factors with hydroponic system includes the cost of equipment depreciation and hydroponics modules, labor costs, nutrients, rockwool, and seeds at P2,817.88. Based on financial analysis that vegetable farming system was very profitable with a P1,002.62 net profit and breakeven point of 13.93 kg per cropping. Therefore, with its high quality to cost ratio, this system can be accessible for use of the agricultural community as well as for agro-based companies, and it can undoubtedly boost crop yields and total productivity.
