TI - Suitability analysis for solar powered irrigation system using gis-based analytical hierarchy process (ahp) approach in rained agricultural areas of Nueva Vizcaya PY - 2022/// CY - Bayombong PB - Nueva Vizcaya State University N1 - This study was conducted to develop a suitability map of solar powered irrigation system (SPIS) in agricultural areas in the province of Nueva Vizcaya. Specifically, the study aimed to, a) locate potential rainfed agricultural sites; b) establish decision rules and create criteria maps, c) determine the weight of the criteria identified using the AHP: and d) Generate map of most suitable sites for SPIS installation using GIS and AHP. A total of 1,158 rainfed farm sites were located with an area of 2,678.75 hectares as 627.844 m² or 0.06278 hectares was the lowest area located and 57.4577 hectares as the largest area. And among the 2,678.75 hectares, rice was the most located with an area of 1,410.48 hectares, followed by corn with an area of 874.05 hectares and 394.21 hectares for other commodities. Considering the restricted areas in land cover, protected areas, slope and elevation, only 2,054.6 hectares were suitable in the said restricted areas. This study used the application and combination of the geographic information system (GIS) and multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) technique, specifically the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). The following criteria were used in this study: a) technical criteria (average annual temperature and global horizontal irradiance); b) economic criteria (proximity to open water source, irrigation systems and roads), and c) environmental criteria (groundwater availability, slope, and elevation). The relative weights of defined criteria were determined by applying analytical hierarchy process (AHP) technique). By overlaying these criteria layers, the suitability map of solar-powered irrigation system (SPIS) for rainfed agricultural areas were developed. From the result of the suitability analysis for solar powered irrigation system using GIS-based Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach, it shows that 1,072.40 hectares were considered highly suitable, 839.79 hectares were moderately suitable and 142.45 hectares were least suitable. ; Thesis (Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering - Soil and Water Management); Includes appendices and bibliographical references ER -
