TI - Bamboo leaf ash: a substitute to cement in concrete hollow blocks PY - 2024/// CY - Bayombong PB - Nueva Vizcaya State University N1 - Concrete is a major construction material, which is usually made by mixing cement, water, fine and coarse aggregate and sometimes admixtures in their right proportions. The use of waste materials with natural admixture properties in concrete production is a becoming a worldwide practice. The assessment of the natural admixture activity of cement replacement materials is becoming increasingly important because of the need for more sustainable cementing products. This study aims to help the community by providing durable and economical materials. Also, to the Civil Engineer/s and future Civil Engineering Student/s, researcher/s and future researcher/s this study would serve as their basis that will give ideas and better understanding about agro-waste and alternative construction materials. In this research bamboo leaf Ash is used as substitute to cement in concrete hollow block in ranges of 5%, 10% 15%. Using experimental approach, strength and durability tests were carried out to assess the feasibility of using bamboo leaf ash as additive to cement in concrete hollow block. This showed that Bamboo Leaf Ash strength values at different ages for Bamboo Leaf Ash additive compared to be a bit favorable with the control of 0% Bamboo Leaf Ash. The optimum compressive strength of 0.83Mpa or 42.67kN was obtained at 5% replacement at 7 days of age. While ordinary Concrete Hollow Block with 0% additive bamboo leaf ash had 1.28Mpa or 64.91kN at 21 days of age. Therefore, it is advisable to use the samples for light weight design only.
