The study was conducted in Don Mariano Perez, Bayombong Nueva Vizcaya to determine the prevalence of soil-transmitted helminth (STH) in various areas in the barangay and to determine the factors affecting the prevalence of STHs in the barangay A total of 60 soil samples was collected from six location sites, four pathways (near Barangay hall, Belizario street, Dahlia street, and Gomez street), one backyard (Rose street), and one within school premise (NVSU-CVM) The methods used for recovery of eggs were modified sucrose flotation and sedimentation method which was used to check for eggs that did not float. Each sample was replicated into three to increase the efficiency of egg recovery wherein four genera of STH was identified. The overall prevalence of STH im flotation method is 73.33% and 6.67% in sedimentation. NVSU-CVM had the highest prevalence (90%) followed by Dahlia street (80%), Rose street (80%), Gomez street (70%), Belizarno street (60%) and Barangay hall (60%) Toxocara spp. is the most prevalent helminth recovered (51.67%), followed by Ascaris spp. (50%), Hookworm (10%), and Dipylidium sp. (5%) Soil temperature and soil type are the factors that are significantly sociated with soil contamination rate. This study revealed high contamination rates with STH, thus both humans and animals in Don Mariano Perez are potentially at risk. Further studies comparing dry and wet season and sampling of neighboring barangays in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya should be done to investigate the prevalence and intensity of contamination in the area. A collaboration with local government, veterinarians, and the academe to promote health education and awareness are warranted to eliminate the risk of infection. Furthermore, responsible ownership of pets and control of stray dogs and cat should also be included in control measures.
