The study was conducted to attain the following objectives: a) to fabricate a biogas purification system, b) to evaluate the performance of the purification system in terms of time in boiling 500 ml of water using the purified biogas gas, and c) to perform a simple cost analysis.
The raw biogas entered its first filtration, which was the water scrubber for the removal of CO2 and trace of H₂S. The second stage was for further elimination of H₂S and the filter was filled with an iron sponge. The third stage was filled with silica gel, a substance which had very effective characteristics of absorbing water vapor. The last filtration contained activated carbon and was designed for further elimination of CO2 and H₂S.
The average time for boiling 500 ml of water was 2.37 minutes for raw biogas and 1.34 minutes for purified biogas. The computed criterion (tc) of 16.13 (tab 0.052.365 and tab 0.013.449) shows that there is a highly significant difference between the raw biogas and purified biogas.
The computed net income derived from the biogas purification system was Php 3029.02 per year and can recover its initial investment within 2.40 year.
