The study was conducted to evaluate the haemostatic and vulnerary effect of woolly tree fern (Dicksonia antartica) in pig castration.
The study was laid out following the Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with the following treatments. Treatment 1-Positive Control, iodine, Treatment 2-0.4gm Woolly tree fern, and Treatment 3-Negative Control Each treatment was replicated thrice with 2 animals per replication and analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
The result of the study revealed significant differences among treatment means A haemostatic effect of woolly tree fern (3.24 mins) proved to be superior to iodine (4.33 mins) and the negative control (5.62 mins) As to scar formation and complete healing of the wound iodine was proven to be the best choice among the treatments The used of woolly tree fern as an alternative haemostatic and vulnerary agent in pig castration, is then recommended.
