This study aimed to identify the determinants of the academic performance Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) I among Diocesan schools in Nueva Vizcaya. To achieve the above objective, the study used the descriptive-correlation method of research. In describing the data gathered, the study used frequency counts, percentages, means and standard deviations. In the analyses of relationships between the variables, the study used the correlation procedures. The 0.05 probability level (level of significance) was the critical point of reference in discussing the result of the study. Results and findings were presented in the narrative reportorial method portrayed in tabular forms. The study was conducted in the in the eight Diocesan schools in the province of Nueva Vizcaya. Two hundred and seventy five sophomore students served as respondents of the study. The data were gathered on November 2009.

The results of the study revealed that students whose parents have higher educational attainment also have higher level of academic performance in their Music subjects; students in the Diocesan schools in Nueva Vizcaya who aremembers of choral groups have higher academic performance in their Arts subject; first year high school students who are younger tend to have higher academic achievement in Health; and students whose mothers have attained higher education have also higher level of academic performance in their Health subject: female students generally have higher level of achievement in Health and in MAPEH; and students whose mothers have attained higher education have also higher level of academic performance in MAPEH.

Freshmen students who have higher level of preference in Arts from among the MAPEH aggregate subjects also have higher academic achievement in PE; and freshmen students who have higher level of preference for PE from among the MAPEH aggregate subjects also have higher academic achievement in PE. High level of influence of the parents on the learning area preferences of the students towards Music and Health will result to a lower academic performance of the students in the said subjects; and respondents were motivated to achieve more in their Arts subject because of the accomplishments of famous artists/athletes/singers; and the more adequate audio-visual materials present in their school, the higher would also be the academic performance in their Arts subjects and in MAPEH.

Hence, the study recommended that to further improve the academic performance of the high school students in the Diocesan School of Nueva Vizcaya in Music 1, the MAPEH teacher should focus more on the alleviation of problems and difficulties encountered by the students in Music 1 whose mothers have lower educational attainments, to further improve then the performance ofthe first year students in Arts, the teacher should provide more time and focus on Improving the performance of their students who are not members of choral groups

It is also recommended that older students should improve their academic performance in Health; teachers of MAPEH should accord ample time to male students' problems in their Health subject and coincide and attune their teaching to the strategies that readily understood by their male students; to improve the academic performance in their Health subject, the problems encounter by the students whose mothers have lower educational attainments must be identified on and mitigated. Identify and mitigate problems encountered by the students whose mothers have lower educational attainments for such problems to be resolved and their academic performance to improve.

To improve the academic achievement of the students in PE, the teacher should find a strategy to motivate students who have lower level of preferences in Arts and PE in improving their academic achievement; parents should not strongly insist on the preferences of the students when the natural inclination or learning preference area of their sons or daughter is on a different subject in MAPEH; the success of famous artists/athletes/singers could be used as an example for the students to perform better; parents should not strongly insist on other preferences when the natural inclination or learning preference area of their sons or daughters, and to further enhance the academic performance of the freshmen students in MAPEH is to acquire adequate audio-visual materials for teachers and students to use.
