The study compared the acaricidal activity of Tubli (Derris elliptica) root crude extract with the commercially available acaricide Carbaryl (Sevin®) and identified the most effective concentration of Tubli against tropical cattle tick. (Boophilus microplus). The study also determined the phytochemical composition of Derris elliptica and the morphological changes observed on the tick after exposure to different concentration of Derris elliptica.

The study was laid out following the completely randomized (CRD) with the following treatments. Treatment 1 Positive control Carbaryl (Sevin®), Treatment 2-25% of Tubli Root Crude Extract, Treatment 3-50% Tubli Root Crude Extract, Treatment 4-75% Tubli Root Crude Extract, Treatment 5-100% Tubli Root Crude Extract and Treatment 6 negative control (water).

The result of the study revealed that the different concentrations of Tubli Root Crude Extract exhibited acaricidal efficacy against tropical cattle tick. However, among the different test extracts, treatment 5 exhibited comparable effects with that of positive control carbaryl (Sevin®). For practical means TRCE could be recommended as a substitute in the control of tropical cattle tick.
