This study aimed to determine the achievement level in Makabayan III of the Elementary Schools in the district of Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya. The district is composed of one primary, one central and nine ordinary elementary schools.

The study used the descriptive-comparative survey research design and collected data through a researcher-constructed test, which was content validated by five experts in the subject, and pilot tested twice for item analysis and validity. Its overall reliability is 0.84 and external validity coefficient is 0.53.

The plan was implemented to all the 371 Makabayan III pupils from the eleven schools to find answers to these specific questions: (1) What is the profile of the Grade III Makabayan pupils in terms of their gender, ethnicity, religion and class of school in the District of Villaverde? (2) What is the achievement level of Makabayan III pupils in the District of Villaverde? In general and by topic areas and (3) What are the areas of Makabayan III in which the respondents achieved highest/lowest? and (4) Are there significant relationships between the respondents' scores in Makabayan III and their profile variables?Using the mean, frequencies, percentages, t-test and One-Way ANOVA in the analysis led to the following conclusions:

1. The Makabayan III Pupils of Villaverde district has slightly more males than the females. In terms of ethnicity, the Ilokanos is the dominant group while Ifugaos and Tagalogs are the minorities. Slightly less than two-thirds are Catholics, more than one sixth are Iglesia ni Cristo and the remaining are of other religions. When grouped according to the class of school, a little less than three-fourths came from ordinary elementary schools; slightly more than one-fourth came from central school and the remaining from primary school.

2. Achievement Level of the Makabayan III pupils

2.1. In General, more than three-fourths of the respondents are level 1 "failure".

2.2. By Major Topic

2.2.1. Unit 1 Pambansang Pagkakakilanlan; Approximately three-fourths of the pupils are level 1 "failure".

2.2.2. Unit II-Pambansang Pagkakaisa, Slightly more than two-thirds are level 1 "failure".

2.2.3. Unit III; Pambansang Katapatan.- Sligthly less than one-half are level 1 "failure".3. Topics in Makabayan where respondents are strongest and weakest

3.1. Unit I-Pambansang Pagkakakilanlan -The Makabayan III pupils are strongest in lesson-6" Nasasabi ang mga paraan kung paano mapag-ingatan ang mga pinagkukunang kabuhayan", and weakest in lesson 4" Nasasabi ang katangian ng anyong lupa "and lesson 7. The respondents failed lessons 2, 4 and 7 and passed lessons 1, 3, 5 and 6.

3.2. Unit 11-Pambansang Pagkakaisa - They did not pass all the lessons but their best is lesson 1 "Natatalakay ang mga bagay na nakakatulong o nakahahadlang sa pagkamit ng mithiin." and their weakest is lesson 3-"Nagagamit ang sariling kakayahan upang mapaunlad ang pamumuhay tulad ng pagtitiwala sa kakayahan." The pupils failed in all the four lessons evaluated.

3.3. Unit III- Pambansang Katapatan The Makabayan III pupils of Villaverde are better in Lesson 1 "Nakikilala ang tungkulin ng mamamayan para sa payapang pamumuhay" than lesson 2 "natutukoy ang tungkulin ng mamamayan sa pangangalaga ng kapaligiran" The pupils passed lesson 1 but failed in lesson 2.

4. Relationships between Achievement in Makabayan III and Profile Variables

4.1. The achievement level of the females and males are the same.

4.2. The Tagalogs achieved higher than either the Ilokanos or the Ifugaos. However, the Ilokanos achieved higher than the Ifugaos.

4.3. The Pentecostes achieved higher than those of the other religious groupings except that of the Jehovah's Witnesses. The Jehovah's witnesses achievement isin turn higher than the achievements of the other remaining groups except that of the Methodists' group. The achievement of the Makabayan III pupils of Villaverde when grouped according to religion is the same if the Pentecostes and Jehovah's Witnesses groups are excluded. Therefore, the achievement of the pupils in Makabayan III of Villaverde district is influenced by their religion.

4.4. The achievement level of the Makabayan III pupils is not influenced by the class of school (pilot, ordinary, primary) they belong.
