The study was conducted to survey the gastrointestinal parasites of swine raised under backyard condition in selected municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya, identify the presence of gastrointestinal parasite in swine raised under backyard condition, determine the most common gastrointestinal parasite that occurs in swine and determine the most and least prevalent gastrointestinal parasites in relation to the breed, sex, age, feeding, housing management and deworming history of the animal.
Only the gastrointestinal parasite Ascaris suum was found in the collected samples. Out of the 269 samples with deworming history, 46.47% were positive with Ascaris suum infection and 53.53% were negative. In the 124 samples without deworming history, 55.65% were found to be infected and 44 35% were negative for parasites.
The age, sex, breed, feeding, and housing of the animals without deworming history were highly significant with the incidence of gastrointestinal parasites.
