This study was undertaken to determine the Factors Related to Level of Performance of Chemistry Students in Public Secondary Schools of Nueva Vizcaya.

The questionnaire-checklist was used to collect the necessary information from twenty (21) Chemistry Teachers and one thousand three hundred twenty two (1322) students of selected schools in Nueva Vizcaya.

The hypotheses were tested using the Pearson Coefficient of Correlation.

Results were as follows:
1. As to the degree finished, ten (10) teachers were Bachelor of Science in Education, major on General Science. The average age of teacher was 35 and most of them were female and married. Fifteen (15) out of twenty-one (21) teachers had permanent teaching status with an average teaching load of 5 units. The usual number of students they handle was 63 per class. It is sad to note that only nine teachers out of twenty (21) attended seminars/workshops.

2. The respondents of the study were mostly of Gaddang/Ibanag ethnic origin, females, four (4) brothers and sisters, and majority were first born children. The fathers of the student respondents were mostly farmers, fishermen, vendors and furniture makers and majority of their mothers were housekeepers Most of their parents did not finish their elementary education.


3. Most of the teachers-respondents claimed that goals/objectives were highly achieved, methods and techniques were used at a moderate extent; class and laboratory rooms and equipment/apparatus did not exist were not available for students used

4. The average performance level of students in chemistry was 81.51, which was within the "satisfactory" level.
The conclusions were as follows:
1. The average performance level of the students in Chemistry was within the "satisfactory" level.
2. There was a significant relationship between the level of performance of students in Chemistry with the number of years in teaching Chemistry and also with seminars/workshop attended by the teachers, There was no significant relationship of level of performance with the following factors (a) age, (b) gender, (c) civil status, (d) highest educational attainment, (e) total teaching load, (f) total number of students, and (g) nature of appointment.

3. There was a significant relationship between the level of performance of the students in Chemistry and the following student profile (a) gender (b) number of brothers and sisters (c) sibling position (d) occupation of mother (e) educational attainment of father (1) educational attainment of mother and (g) ethnic origin. However, there was no significant relationship between the level of performance of students in Chemistry with the occupation of their father.

4. There was no significant relationship between the level of performance of students on the other-related factors such as the goals/objectives, methods and techniques, class and laboratory rooms and equipment/apparatus.

On the strength of the foregoing findings and conclusions, the researcher offers the following recommendations:
1. Teachers teaching chemistry subjects should attend seminars and workshops, in-service trainings, and summer institute related to Science and Chemistry.
2. Teachers should be encouraged to pursue their graduate studies.
3. Teaching strategies like laboratory method, field trips and film viewing should be encourage in teaching the Chemistry to enhance students' learning and,
4. A similar study is likewise recommended not only in Chemistry but also to the other Science subjects like General Science, Biology, and Physics.
