The study was conducted to determine the platelet increasing effect of tawa-tawa (Euphorbia hiria) capsules in heparin induced thrombocytopenia in dogs The antithrombocytopenic activity of E. hirta was evaluated using platelet count, clotting time and bleeding time determination.

Fifteen dogs were used in the study. An experiment was done with three treatments having 5 replicates each and was randomly distributed to the cages using the Complete Randomized Design.
The study at 48 hours posts treatment of heparin, showed that platelet count of experimental animals under treatment 3 starts to increase while the platelet counts of treatments 1 and 2 starts to increase after 72 hours.

The result of the study indicates that the clotting and bleeding time of dogs induced with thrombocytopenia using heparin at a dose of 200 IU/kg body weight were not affected.
