This study evaluated the response of open-pollinated glutinous corn varieties to vermiwash as an organic foliar fertilizer combined with inorganic fertilizers at Isabela State University, Echague Campus, from June 25 to September 3, 2023. The experiment used a split-plot design with three replications, involving three corn varieties (IES Glutinous #4, IES Glutinous #7, and Lagkitan) as main plots and various fertilizer treatments as subplots, including different combinations of NPK and vermiwash.
The three varieties did not differ in the number of days to fifty percent silking, height at 30 days after planting. However, the Lagkitan variety produced the tallest plants at 60 days, longest ears, largest ear diameter, greatest number of kernel rows per ear, heaviest husked ears, and highest yield per plot and hectare, yielding up to 14.77 tons per hectare OPV Glut #7 had the highest chlorophyll content before flowering, with comparable levels at the silking stage for both OPV Glut #7 and OPV Glut #4.
The application of 100-60-60 kg NPK per hectare+ 20% vermiwash (200 ml Vermiwash 800ml distilled water), 100-60-60 kg NPK per hectare + 30% vermiwash (300 ml Vermiwash + 700 ml distilled water) and 100-60-60 kg NPK per hectare + 40% vermiwash (400 ml Vermiwash + 600 ml distilled water) F6 produced the tallest at 30 days after planting while the plants applied with 100-60-60 kg NPK per hectare +10% vermiwash (100 ml Vermiwash + 900 ml distilled water), 100-60-60 kg NPK per hectare + 20% vermiwash (200 ml Vermiwash+ 800 ml distilled water), 100-60-60 kg NPK per hectare + 30% vermiwash (300 ml Vermiwash + 700 ml distilled water) and 100-60-60 kg NPK per hectare + 40% vermiwash (400 ml Vermiwash+ 600 ml distilled water) developed the shortest days to fifty percent tasseling, produced the tallest plants at 60 days after planting, All treatments had comparable chlorophyll content before flowering except the plants by the application of Farmer's Practice. The application of 100-60-60 kg NPK per hectare 40% vermiwash (400 ml Vermiwash+ 600 ml distilled water) produced the heaviest husked ear, biggest ear diameter, heaviest of husked car plot and highest yield per hectare and chlorophyll content before silking. The application of vermiwash did not affect the number of days to silking and number of kernel rows per ear.
The interaction between variety and vermiwash application significantly affected days to 50% tasseling and silking, plant height at 30 days, number of kernel rows per ear, husked ear weight, and yield per hectare. However, there was no significant interaction for plant height at 60 days, ear length, ear diameter, or chlorophyll content before flowering and silking. OPV Glut #7 with the farmer's practice method achieved the highest return on expenses at 378.82%.
