The study was conducted using a total of twenty (20) 2-3 months old male albino (Rattus norvegicaus) rats weighing 90-150 grams to evaluate the wound healing properties of East Asian bullfrog (Hoplobatrachus rugulosus) skin ointment. Specifically, the study aimed: (1) to determine the rate of wound contraction after application of frog skin ointment and (2) to determine the number of days to achieved wound epithelialization. Experimental animals were randomly distributed using the complete randomized design (CRD). The different treatments were composed of Treatment 1 (negative control- no treatment), Treatment 2 (positive control- Mupirocin ointment), Treatment 3 (Frog skin ointment- 1%), and Treatment 4 (Frog skin ointment- 2%). The duration of the treatment lasted for 18 days. Based on the result of the study. T3 and T4 have wound healing qualities that are similar to T2. As to wound contraction, day 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11, displayed high significant difference(p<0.01) whereas day 6, 12, 13, and 14 showed significant difference (p<0.05) across treatments. Similar results were shown throughout the epithelialization period with T3 and T4 exhibiting a highly significant difference (p<0.01) when compared to other treatment groups at 5% DMRT. These results demonstrated the potential of using ointment produced from the skin of East Asian bullfrog (Hoplobatrachus rugulosus) as a substitute treatment for wound management to promote and enhance wound healing.
