The experiment was conducted to evaluate the hepatotoxicity of Chromolaena odorata leaf extract in albino rats Parameter involved in the study was histopathology Fifteen rats were used in the study.

The study was laid out following the Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments The following treatments were treatment 1- positive control vitamin K (menadione), treatment 2-negative control (distilled water), treatment 3-50% C odorata methanol dried leaf extract, treatment 4-75% C odorata methanol dried leaf extract, treatment 5-100% C. odorata methanol dried leaf extracts Each treatment was replicated three times.

Based on the result of the study, histopathological assessment showed centrilobular and bridging necrosis with degenerative changes in the liver of samples treated with 13, T4, and T5 Treatment 4 and 5 (75% and 100% C odorata methanol dried leaf extract, respectively) obtained the highest level of hepatotoxicity among other treatments and is comparable to TI (vitamin K) positive control Hence, the methanolic extract of Codoratu used in traditional medical practice maybe safe in lower concentration, whereas high concentrations may have deleterious hepatic effects.
