The study determines the zone of inhibition of Tasmannia piperita, compared the in-vitro antibacterial efficacy with the commercially available antibiotics (penicillin G and gentamicin) and identify the most effective concentration capable of inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The study experimented was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with the following treatments Treatment 1-penicillin G and gentamicin (antibiotic disc), Treatment 2-25% Tasmannia piperita crude extract, Treatment 3-50% Tasmannia piperita crude extract, Treatment 4-75% Tasmannia piperita crude etract, Treatment 5-100% Tasmannia piperita crude extract, Treatment 6-negative control 95% ethanol. Each treatment was replicated three times.
Based on the result of the study, Tasmanni piperita crude extract inhibited zones of inhibition but not significant because it indicated no antibacterial efficacy both against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, compared to penicillin that exhibited moderate antibacterial efficacy and gentamicin that possess high antibacterial efficacy.
