This study was conducted from December 2022 to April 2023 at Purok 8, Curasay. Baretbet, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya. It aimed to evaluate the growth and yield performance of bush snap bean as influenced by Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the optimum concentration and application frequency of CPGP as well as their combination on the growth and yield of bush snap beans.
The experiment was laid out in a split-plot arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The frequency of application: 3x, 4x and 5x were designated as main plot and the concentration: 40 ppm, 60 ppm, 80 ppm and 100 ppm were designated as sub-plot.
Plants treated with foliar spray five-times had significantly shorter time to flower opening. Furthermore, 100 ppm had the earliest time to flowering at 33.89 days after sowing (DAS) or 4.78 days earlier than the control. Also 100 ppm when applied five times hastened maturity of bush snap beans where pods were primed 4.12 days earlier than the control treatment. Likewise, plants treated with 100 ppm CPGP five times were tallest (28.92 cm.), had the greatest number of branches (6.07).
Pods were markedly longer compared to pods from untreated control plants when 100 ppm was applied five times but were not significantly different from those applied with 100 ppm four-times. The weight of marketable pods was heaviest at 80 ppm and 100 ppm when applied five times. The highest number of pods per plant was obtained from plants treated five-times at 100 ppm but not significantly different from five-time at 60 ppm. The highest yield per hectare of bush snap beans treated with CPGP was recorded from five-time application of 100 ppm at 7.36 tons. Four-time application gained 5.96 tons and three-times had 5.11 tons of harvested pods.
