The study was conducted to compare the pain response based on behavioral response during exploratory laparotomy in goats under distal paravertebral nerve block and aquapuncture.

A total of nine (9) goats were randomly distributed in three (3) treatment groups based on weight and age Treatment 1 is acupuncture using garlic cloves decoction, treatment 2 is aquapuncture using ginger rhizome decoction and treatment 3 as the control using Lidocaine hydrochloride The study was conducted at Nueva Vizcaya State University Animal Health Center-Veterinary Teaching Hospital from April 2-17, 2018.

The result of the study showed that aquapuncture using ginger and garlic did not produce any significant level of analgesia. Only the control group (DPNB) showed an excellent to good level of analgesia thus exploratory laparotomy was performed, this is expected since lidocaine hydrochloride is commonly used as local analgesic agent in small and large ruminant surgery.
