The study was conducted to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites of carabaos in the province of Nueva Vizcaya, identify incidence of parasitism and percentage occurrence based on place of origin, age, sex, feeding management and deworming history and provide recommendation to the farmers on the proper medication and treatment of their animals.
A total of 73 carabaos were examined from seven different municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya, namely Aritao, Bambang, Bagabag, Bayombong, Dupax del Norte Dupax del Sur and Quezon The result shows that there are larger percentage of carabaos that are infected with the single infection of amphistome followed by single infection of strongyle, a single infection of Fasciola and a double infection of Trichostrongilus axer and Fasciola respectively across place of origin, age group, gender, types of feeding management, and deworming history
Based on correlation study, animals from Bambang have the highest incidence of gastrointestinal parasites, animals 1-3 years old were more prone to gastrointestinal parasites, body condition score of 4 has the highest incidence of gastrointestinal parasites, tethered animals have the highest incidence of gastrointestinal parasites, respondents who are high school graduates have animals with the highest incidence of gastrointestinal parasites.
