500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note A feeding experiment was conducted to develop an azolla-based lysine supplemented broiler diet under constant levels of methionine. It tried to evaluate the performance of broilers (Minerva Strain) fed with the experimental diets in terms of final gain in weight, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, growth rate, dressing percentage, yield and economic returns. carcass

One hundred and fifty birds were randomly distributed to five dietary treatments with 3 replications consisting of three levels of lysine: 3. 3.5, and 4 percent of the total crude protein in the diet with two control treatments. The positive control consisted of soybean 011 meal as the major plant protein source, and the negative control azolla-based diet both without lysine supplementation. was

The diets were fed to day-old birds until 45 days.

Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the significance among the different treatments, whereas. Least Significance Difference (LSD) and Duncan's Multiple Range.

Test (DMRT) were used to compare the significance of the different treatments.

Results showed significant differences in final gain in weight of the broilers fed the treated diets. Heaviest final gain in weight was obtained from birds fed with azolla-based diet with 4 percent lysine supplementation while lowest gain in weight was recorded among birds fed azolla-based However, of diets without lysine supplementation. insignificant differences were noted in term feed consumption among the different group of treatments.

Feed conversion ratio and growth rate was highest for birds fed azolla-based diets with as 4 percent lysine compared to the other treated birds. Likewise, dressing percentage and carcass yields were higher among birds fed with azolla-based diets supplemented with 4 percent level of lysine than the other treatments.

Based on the economic efficiency of the diets at current market price of feed ingredients, the study proved that higher profits were obtained when broilers were fed with azolla-based diets with 4% level of lysine supplementation at constant level of methionine.
