500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note The study was conducted to isolate fungi from soil sample in Paitan, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya and to test their trapping effect on the larval stage of liver fluke present in the snail Lymnea auricularia. The study used the Complete Randomized Design with the following treatments: treatment 1- Lymnea auricularia with distilled water (negative control), treatment 2- positive control treated with molluscicide, treatment 3, 4, and 5 used 1 x 106, 1 x 109 and 1x1012 spores per ml respectively. The results are as follows: the larvae of Fasciola gigantica treated with molluscicide (Karate®) died and this was subsequently followed by the death of the snail; Treatment 3 shows that Lymnea with mycoparasite applied with 1x 106 spores per ml showed trapped larvae, but no death was recorded. Treatment 4 with greater concentration of fungi at 1x 109 spores per ml. shows that the larvae were trapped and killed. The study also reveals that the greater the concentration of the fungi the greater the possibility that a higher number of larvae will be trapped.

The fungi isolated from the soil are the following: Arthrobotrys dactyloides, Meria conospora, Macrosporium cyanopagum and Macrosporium olipsosporum, However, only Arthrobotrys dactyloides was effective in trapping and killing the larvae of Fasciola gigantica one hour after exposure.

Further study is recommended to find the most effective concentration of fungi that will control the larval stages in the snail vector as well as extend the exposure time from 1 hour to a longer period to observe mortality after trapping.
