| General note | This study focused on analyzing the personality characteristics of middle-level managers of an academic institution based on functional psychology. Informants were chosen as to the interest of the study. Fifteen middle level managers with designations as department chair, deans, directors and associate directors were given a projective test like the Luscher Color test, five of whom projected unique aspects of personality characteristics, which were given emphasis in this study. The qualitative method of research was employed to gather baseline data. The interpretation of the data was derived from the Luscher Color Test manual; whereas, the Sacks Sentence Completion Test was used as an instrument to elicit responses from the informants. Storytelling. observation, interviews and psychological theories were used to give meaning to the study.<br/><br/>Results of the color test show that middle-level managers have unique aspects of personality which could be used as an avenue to understand their leadership style, in terms of factors affecting their personalities and the possible therapeutic interventions that could also help in developing their personas.<br/><br/>Based from the findings of the study, the study recommends the following:1. Middle-level managers should seek a way to understand their unique personalities through a series of psychological tests. This is in relation to the positive reformation of their personalities as well as the school.<br/><br/>2. Human Resource Management in an academic institution should employ psychologists or psychometricians to conduct and interpret psychological exams as a means of screening applicants for career promotions, counseling and for conducting psychological therapies to employees as well as the students.<br/><br/>3. Administrators should use results of psychological interpretations as a way of identifying the problems of the employees and students. Thus, it could pave the way to develop strategies in helping their employees and students.<br/><br/>4. Outside of the above, a licensed guidance counselor should be employed at all levels in any academic institution.<br/><br/>5. Students should undergo psychological examinations as a tool of understanding I.Q. and E.Q. level.<br/><br/>6. Future Researchers of topics related to this should delve into studying the implications to hiring process using a larger number of respondents and across disciplines.<br/><br/>Limitations of the study such as the number of informants and series of psychological tests should be used as an avenue for further studies. |
