| General note | The primary purpose of this study was to identify the determinants of the National Achievement Test (NAT) Performance as a basis for instructional intervention.<br/><br/>To achieve the above aim, the study used the descriptive correlation research method through a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics through the correlation procedures. The 0.05 probability level (level of significance) was the critical point of reference for the analysis of results.<br/><br/>The study was conducted in fifteen (15) elementary schools distributed in the Lamut District of the Department of Education of Ifugao Province. Two hundred and eighteen (218), Grade VI pupils, eighty six (86) elementary school teachers, and nine (9) elementary school administrators served as the respondents for the study. The study was conducted during the second semester of school year 2007-2008.<br/><br/>The study found that younger pupils belonging to lesser class size located in central schools, in single class type, with higher grades in English, Math, Science, Filipino, HEKASI, and with higher average grades in all subjects, are those who have higher overall performance rating in the NAT.<br/><br/>Likewise, the study found out that teachers who have higher educational attainment and have more relevant teaching experience have pupils who garnered higher NAT achievement. The study indicated that administrators who are analyzers havehigher NAT achievement of their Grade VI pupils of their school than administrators who are motivators and achievers,<br/><br/>Based from the above results, the study suggests that to improve the NAT performance in HEKASI of Grade VI pupils in the District of Lamut, enhancement activities such as remedial classes should target those older pupils belonging to bigger class sizes and located in non-central schools, in double class type, with lower grades in the subjects English, Math, Science, Filipino, HEKASI, and lower average grade in their subjects.<br/><br/>Teachers who possess higher educational attainment and with more years of experience in teaching should wholeheartedly assist other teachers in devising teaching strategies that could improve the performance of their pupils and their school in the NAT. They should likewise assist in conducting NAT review classes in their schools.<br/><br/>Moreover, administrators should acquire analyzer characteristics to effectively evaluate the causal factors to the performance of their pupils in the NAT for them to develop appropriate management strategies to enhance better performance of their teachers and eventually their pupils' performance as well as their school performance in the NAT. |
