| General note | This study was specifically conducted to determine the correlation between the pupils' level of performance in Science VI with their profile, the profile of their teachers and the status of science teaching in their respective schools. It was conducted to all the public elementary schools of Lamut District, Lamut, Ifugao during the School Year 2007 -2008. A total sample of 219 grade six pupils and 15 grade six science teachers served as respondents in the study. The researcher made use of descriptive correlation research method through questionnaire-checklist to gather pertinent data required in the study. The levels of performance of the pupils were their grades in Science VI during the first three grading periods of the School Year 2007-2008. To describe the data gathered, the study used frequency counts, percentages, means and standard deviations. In the analyses of the relationships between the variables, the study used correlation procedures through the Statistical Package for Social Statistics (SPSS version 10.00) with the 0.05 probability level as the critical point of reference.<br/><br/> The result of the study indicated that younger children have higher level of performance in Science VI. Likewise, pupils whose father and mother are OFW, teachers and government employees have higher level of performance. Pupils whose father and mother who have higher educational attainment and with higher family income also have higher level of performance in Science VI. More amenities in the home of the respondents can also induce higlter level of performance in Science VI<br/><br/> Teachers who have more number of children are those whose pupils who have higher level of performance in Science VI.<br/><br/> There is insufficient evidence that the status of science teaching in the study sites is significantly related to the level of performance of pupils in Science VI.<br/><br/> With the above results of the study, the following recommendations are forwarded:<br/><br/> Pupils whose fathers are farmers, businessmen, drivers and technicians and pupils whose mothers are farmers, housekeepers and businesswomen should be given more attention in improving their performance in Science VI Likewise, pupils whose parents who have lower educational attainment and lesser number of amenities at home should be given extra attention in understanding their lessons in science to improve their performance.<br/><br/> Teachers who have lesser number of children should emulate the strategies of their fellow teachers who have more children in teaching Science VI. Those with more children should share their effective strategies in teaching Science VI to improve the performance of pupils in Science VI in Lamut District.<br/><br/> The status of science teaching should not be a sole basis in equating the performance of pupils in Science VI in the study sites.<br/> |
