| General note | The study developed a water supplement for broilers from fresh coffee pulp in order to enhance organic broiler production. This aimed to evaluate the effects of supplementation of different levels of fermented coffee pulp juice (0, 20, 30, 40 ml FCPJ/L water) and commercial supplement as positive control on the growth performance, dressing yield, carcass evaluation, and small intestine histomorphology in broilers. One hundred fifty (150) straight-run broilers were assigned to five (5) treatments following the Completely Randomized Design and were given FCPJ as drinking water for 28 days. The experiment was conducted at Baguinge, Kiangan, Ifugao from April-May 2023.<br/><br/> Among the broilers treated with FCPJ, results showed that the administration of 30 ml FCPJ/L of water resulted to improve final weight, gain in weight, and feed efficiency. It was further observed that higher concentration of FCPJ (40 ml) produced chickens with the lowest weigh with the high FCR. Carcass evaluation also showed that 30 ml FCPJ/L water significantly produced broilers with higher live weight and dressed weight as compared to the control group (pure water only). However, no significant differences were observed on the drip loss and meat pH of the experimental birds.<br/><br/> Intestinal histomorphology showed no significant differences among treatments in terms of villus number and height. However, the treated groups revealed wider villus width. Correlation analysis showed both positive and negative relationship between the different growth parameters and histomorphometry of the small intestine.<br/> |
