| General note | Reading acts as a fundamental building block for learning in any academic topic, be it language, arts, sciences, or mathematics. In recent years, the study of the Multiple Intelligences has increasingly contributed to the development of related learning theories in recent years. Thus, reading strategies and multiple intelligences are considered to have a great effect on the learner's reading literacy.<br/><br/> Considering other means of probing the present study, a descriptive-correlational method was utilized to investigate the possible interconnections among the reading strategies, multiple intelligences, and reading literacy of 285 Grade 7 students in Kayapa District. The researcher used three adopted research instruments, which are Metacognitive Awareness Reading Strategies Inventory (MARSI) for reading strategies, Multiple Intelligences Inventory (MII) for dominant multiple intelligence, and Reading Literacy tool for reading literacy. Pearson r statistical tool was used to determine the relationship of the respondents' reading strategies and multiple intelligences, while multiple regression analysis was applied to analyze which among the variables best predict the reading literacy of the respondents. Hence, the findings revealed that a.) the level of students' reading strategies used such as global, problem-solving and support were all considered to be of average level, b) majority of the respondents dominant multiple intelligence were visual, followed by kinesthetic, then intrapersonal strength, while the least strength of the respondents were musical and interpersonal strength, c.) the reading literacy of students in terms of locating information was categorized as average mastery, and for the understanding, and evaluating and reflecting were determined as low mastery, d.) the global reading strategies, visual and existential multiple intelligences were determined to be the best predictors of reading literacy.<br/><br/> Thus, the findings may have pedagogical implications for all the concerned members of discourse community such as revisiting the curriculum, designing supplementary reading materials, conducting educational campaigns on multiple intelligences and reading strategies. |
